Money & Economics

AI top ? Hmm

As I understand it, the AI battle is similar to the moon shot or Manhattan project vs China this time

US tax payers are to be the "backstop" for what is considered strategic industries.

SOME will become insanely rich playing this Government backed game ..

Guess some will lose in this game also

Not all companies started will make it

Top as in Stock prices and valuations. Its a black hole for money currently

It may well be YUGE! but its wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of itself at minimum.

Read the actual details in the posts i copied above in post #2317
Practically everyone in any position in finance and economics is saying the same thing.
I have 0 exposure so it makes no direct difference to me, I'm too old to play in the casino. Been there done that. I'm good.

"The median value of US consumers' stock market investments has surpassed $300,000 for the first time in history."

Maybe I'm having a bad morning.? This strikes me as a totally nonsensical, meaningless statement.

What's the definition of a US Consumer?
Is this value for a single investment, or the total of all investments from a US Consumer?
Does the set for this median value include all US Consumers, or just those that have stock market investments?

Whatever the definition is of US Consumer, we're to believe that over half of them have an investment value of over $300k? How many on this forum fall into that bucket?

All stock market associated investments, for those with stock market investments

“Investments include single stocks, mutual funds, and retirement accounts such as 401(k)s or IRAs.

This amount has more than TRIPLED since April 2020.

Meanwhile, equities now reflect a record 52% of US households' financial allocation, ~5 percentage points above the 2000 Dot-Com bubble peak.

Americans are more invested in equities than ever before.”

Do you really believe that of those that hold stock market investments, more than half of them hold more than $300k? I don't, and I don't think it's even close to half.

Yeah only becasue that was less than $100K just 5 years ago. Inflation and stock market gains increased valuations beyond almost anything we've seen before.

How many people do you know have market investments and 401k's with only say $10K in them?
Generally you're in the market because you have some reasonably decent $ left over after paying the bills

We're just throwing opinions back and forth with no chance of proving them, and the number I'm calling this expert on is 300k, not 10k. For personal knowledge, I can say my wife and I are under 300k, plus 4 kids and 1 grandkid are under 300k, and 1 kid might be over 300k but I don't know that for sure. The press (haha, I know) has been reporting more and more people cashing out their 401k to make ends meet. In Oregon, the socialist government has made 401k participation the default unless the employee actively opts out, which is going to pull in a large number of low-balance 401k holders. If this 300k number was an average I could buy it, as a median I think it's obviously absurd.

So many headlines to chose from, lol

Figured I would pick this one since our Vehicle Ins. rates are lower than 5 years ago, not by much but a couple of hundred dollars a year....guess we are one of the lucky ones...and we are not getting any younger...:)

We have been holding onto $500 deductibles on our vehicles for many years. We use to have $250 but around about a decade ago we caved and went to $500. I know some people are at $750-$1k
It is one way to lower rates...
