My first build. I picked up an i76700 and I'm thinking I should upgrade the existing 8gb memory. Is their value in going to 32 gb (4x8 gb)? Or is 16 (4x 4gb) enough?
It will depend on how much cam through put you need. Number of cams, frame rate, MP size, and bit rate.
Generally 8 or 16GB is fine. If the motherboard supports quad channel memory, then 4X is fine. If it only supports dual channel, then 2x is fine as you will not gain anything from having 4X sticks.
Buy refurbished. Don't build or buy new. The most cost-effective Blue Iris computers are refurbished business-class systems such as "HP EliteDesk" and "Dell OptiPlex". You can usually get a good deal by searching Ebay for specific CPU model numbers, and...
I baught a used system off the list, optiplex 7400 with an i7. Motherboard is 2 channel. I'm expecting to run 7 cameras (some of this is a guess)
1 x 4k at 30 fps
1 x 4mp at 25 mp2
3 x 4k at 20 fps
2 x 4 mp at 20 fps
Looks like 16 gb, 2x8gb would be my useful cap. Worth upgrading or should I wait until I start to see performance sliw down?
