I'm working on a prototype system that is currently using one of my 5442 cams as a way to detect human motion and notify an app launcher of that motion. Ultimately, this would be installed as part of a commercial package in venues with pool tables. I love the 5442, but its WAY overkill for what I need.

Do you have any suggestions for lower cost fixed lens option I should consider? The venues will be fairly well lit and the camera will be pointed at the pool table. 2-4MP will be more than fine, so long as the detection is solid.

Thanks in advance!

@restorick2378 The EmpireTech Color4M-TL would be a better fit for your needs. Not only is it significantly cheaper (costs half as much), its image quality is better in several ways (after adjusting from its stupid defaults), and instead of relying on polling the camera for subtle ONVIF metadata changes, you can configure the camera to open a TCP socket to notify your solution when it detects motion (standard, human, vehicle, etc.). This makes it particularly friendly for a custom app or microcontroller project. In my experience, its IVS works slightly better than the 5442—faster, more reliable, fewer false triggers, etc.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll check out the cam. I also saw this camera at $90 and was curious how this might work. I really don't need a lot of bells and whistles, just reliable detection...
