Loosing my patience with BI, what have they done to it..

Did you think you were going to get BI6 for free? I don't understand why you would install 6 and THEN uninstall 5 thinking you weren't going to have to pay for it?? I also find it hard to believe you don't have a backup of the BI5 installer somewhere, you must think nothing ever breaks :)
Honestly, I had no idea. I hadn't even considered upgrading to v6 when one of my cameras glitched and I saw it was available. Thought I'd look at it and see what it had. When it didn't register, I figured it might be bc 5 was still on the system. While I don't feel that I HAVE to calm your mind about the backup, I will out of courtesy. My NAS was hit by lightning and I lost all of my backups. I forgot all about BI as its not something I ever really touch.

IMHO, the one fault of BI built in updater is that it doesn't adequately warn you if you attempt to install a new version that you are not currently licensed for. The system will allow you to install it without any warning, nag screen, etc. This causes lots of people to get upset when they upgrade to a version they are not licensed for and get the "evaluation" nags because they don't initially understand that their paid support period ended.

Of course the "fix" is easy enough. Those people just need to go back to a version of the software that was released while they were under paid support. How far back they need to go simply depends on how long ago their paid support period ended. The other alternative is to simply restart a paid support period which will grant valid licenses for any current release while you are under the paid support period.
