Long range (25-30m) bullet IR only

Question, I have been using a PTZ 49225 which I would like to switch for a bullet, the PTZ has mostly been static, hence the reason for switching, seems a waste. Now the problem is that the PTZ has powerful IR, most bullets are 60m max IR, which in the real world is less than the PTZ. The IR on the PTZ was working pretty well up to 30m range, maybe even 35-40m. I realise this is quite a unique situation, any suggestions for cameras which would do this without additional IR illuminator.

I do run a IPC-B52IR-Z12E-S2 1/2.8" CMOS 2MP 5mm–60mm, but if I zoom this to around 30-40mm it is clearly darker than the PTZ. Sadly a 5442 bullet would be a bit short of zoom, not by much though, wonder if this is the better choice although I think that will be lacking IR also.

Oh you added that after I replied lol.

Yeah that is a tough distance without PTZ or added IR.

But if it is just for observation, the shutter could be slowed way down that could probably let the Z4E work?

Yes, sorry about that! never crossed my mind about the IR issue, already ordered a Z12E for the job so maybe will just have to test, as you say drop the shutter down to sub 1/100. The PTZ's really spoil you for range with the IR, wish they would make a 5442 with more than 30mm zoom in a bullet. Never really looked into the specific LPR cameras, I guess or hope these have more power on the IR side than the Z12E.

A tough call no doubt, I may end up having to use the PTZ after all, guess the Z12E will be a spare if my LPR fails if this is the case! ah well, I jumped in a bit quick with that purchase possibly.

The Z12E will work as well. It has good IR.

The triple lens camera also has a blaster of IR

Yes in theory it has, somehow those damn 49225's seem to out perform their on paper spec, always been my best 2MP camera at night, until the 5442's of course! Well I will see how the Z12E works out with lower shutter, then maybe look into IR illuminator or just settle for a 5442 bullet with the 32mm lens. Thanks for the prompt replies, appreciated :thumb:

Just to add, I run a couple of DH-IPC-HFW5442EP-ZE models and even with shutter quite high, these will give quite good results for observation out to 20-25m at a push, ID is of course much closer at around 2-4m with just IR, more when the flood comes on. This makes me think a 32mm 5442 could give quite a nice image, all be it with less reach than the Z12E, food for thought I guess. I am buying way too many camera at the moment!
