Ok. But without MD enabled Synology SS (Surveillance Station) doesn't send any notifications and they aren't marked on the SS timeline so I've no idea if it's working or not. That is the only way I know if it's working or not.
Without something to monitor on my phone, how would I know if it got triggered or not? That is how I get motion alerts from my reolink cameras. In any case, I disabled it before but I just couldn't tell if it was working. As long as MD is enabled, you will get triggers outside of the IVS rules.

I added it as Generic Dahua as suggested by someone. First thing I tried was OVIF which I didn't expect to work properly but was ok however same problem as Generic Dahua. I among a few people about 4 years ago have contacted Synology about it to add support for these cameras when I expected to buy them but they never did until I guess recently. I just updated the camera driver pack for SS about an hour ago and I see it now at least has the Dahua IPC-HDW5442T-ZE and the IPC-T5442TM-AS-LED models so I'm using the HDW5442T-ZE now as it recognizes the IVS in its configuration and I was able to enable it. Waiting for some triggers now but not much traffic now at night in the areas I've enabled IVS and I'm too lazy to get out of bed and go outside right now. I did see a very slight trigger in SS for a bird walking on the lawn (which shouldn't be triggered as I didn't select any objects so small).Again, this isn't a camera issue, it is a Synology issue.
No we do not keep the GUI open 24/7.
I use BI and get alerts that were triggered by IVS. Same with those that use an NVR.
IVS is simply a smarter motion detection that uses AI and most here only use IVS with MD and SMD turned off.
How did you load the camera into SS? It obviously is using the wrong protocol.
Did you reach out to SS for support?
