Intrusion zone setup + notification advice

Hey guys - sorry wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the Dahua thread. I'm looking for some opinions/advice on the best way to set up two intrusion zones within a frame, but only receive DMSS notifications for one.

Current set up:

I have an IPC-Color-4K-T turret on the front of my house that's recording my front yard/driveway and the road beyond my front fence - see attached diagram.

I currently have two IVS zones set up - the front yard (lower half of frame) being an intrusion zone, and the road (top half of frame) currently as a fast movement zone - I'll explain why below.

I want to receive DMSS notification for the front yard intrusion zone, but not for the road zone. For this reason, I've made the road zone a 'fast moving' zone so I can deselect that within DMSS to not receive notifications every time a car or person moves through the zone. I've cranked up the sensitivity so even people walking past are correctly recorded.

Is this the best way to go about this set up? I was alternatively going to make both standard IVS intrusion zones, but then I couldn't separate out the notifications within DMSS - it's either all intrusion zones on or off.

DMSS alerts don’t discriminate by zone only by type so yes, it’s a problem that requires workarounds.

I simply use a Tripwire vs an Intrusion zone (or vice versa) for the area I don’t want alerts for

Hi.
I'm not answering your question, rather asking you one.
I have a camera in a similar situation, with IVS Tripwire alerts. I get several notifications at night, because car lights cross my Tripwire line, even though not the cars themselves.
I currently use a notification manager app to silence those Tripwire notifications at night. I still get them, just in case I need to see what's happening, in an emergency situation, but with no sound.
Are Intrusion zones immune to car lights?
Or how do you avoid that?

What model camera? Using an NVR or something else?

No, there is little if any difference between Tripwire vs Intrusion zones with respect to false alerts.
It’s how they are setup, the quality of the equipment, and the knowledge of the user.


It comes down to:

• Setting up your tripwire/Intrusion zones properly and understanding the 3D nature of the lines
• Using the right equipment
• Making sure old tech MD/SMD or any other cute definition of same is turned OFF on both the camera AND the recording device

I routinely use a mix of both

No, I have few if any false alerts on either.
Example- if car lights were an issue, this scene would be useless to try and cover with IVS
I get next to 0 false alerts here as the recording timeline clearly shows with literally thousands of vehicles passing each day

And on these examples notice I have a lot of IVS rules.
Some are Human only, some Vehicle only, some directional and some play the role of spotter for a PTZ that captures plates
But only the rule for a specific direction+vehicle is activated, and not by headlights. 1 alert

Here's another example.

IVS lines have 3D properties.

In this case a couple has walked "past" the Intrusion zone line, but only the taller man activates the rule.
Why? Because the woman literally "walked underneath" the rule




This is why I recommend drawing IVS lines to hit the target at waist/bumper height, not hover above them
Note the difference in my Intrusion zone now -its "flat" not "tall" forcing the target to actually cross a line

I use it Plug&Play, everything done in the NVR.

My goal is to get alerts if anybody passes the blue tripwire line, either a car or a person that goes to the doorbell. And it works just fine. I get the alerts whenever that happens.
The problem is at night, when cars headlights pass that same line. Maybe it happens because the street doesn´t have much light - this is a rural area.

It’s been a while since I used the 5231’s , great camera in its day but an old implementation of IVS

I’d upgrade to the 5442 series.

But in the meantime maybe move your line back from the street more?

And be sure regular MD is Off
