I will mount some camera junction boxes at 7' to 8' feet high, not out of reach, with the cable dropping from above. To make it a bit more difficult for wise-guys to easily mess with a cable I thought would position the junction box port and cable gland pointing straight upwards to place it several more inches from reach. Dielectric grease would be appropriately applied to the cable glands/cables as a water barrier.

Reasonable or nuts?

Is it somewhat protected from above?

I would try to position the cable connections such that any water running down the wire in the box wouldn't be a straight shot to the connection. At least get an upward bend in there.

IMO it's taking a risk. Because I think this way I always have the cable entry going straight up. Either way I've found that it helps to put a thin layer of grease on the gasket surfaces and the cable jacket where it goes through the gasket. At these places doesn't matter if it's dielectric or not. I think what wittaj suggested is essentially a drip loop inside the box, a good idea. Maybe a small hole on the bottom of the box for any water to drain out? That of course opens the door to bugs getting in.
