I hate LPR camera settings at night.

Had two officers ask me to identify a tag at 11:15pm that came by the next morning because I have a LPR cam pointed at the entrance/exit of our cul de sac.

I told them the tag would be unreadable at night. It's because of my settings. They called me at work that day and said they had the cars plate number. I hope they believed me, but did tell them I'd look after work. Onoe of them called whhill i was at work and said they had the number so It was all good. I did look but my cam is set up wrong. I didn't really care because it's so obvious most would think it gets everything......but night is very different.

I've purchased another cam. ANPR that I need to install. I also have to realize my overview cam is to identify the "car" not the tag....at night....so now I may have 3 cameras on the saME POLE ON MY YARD.

You can see the difference from those that set up the camera correctly for night vs not having an overview camera if you want to see he car without the tag, as it will just be a bright spot. (the tag)

if its all (retro) reflective plates it wont be an issue
if mixed retro and non then ip cameras typcially can only expose for one type
iow, its either one too bright or one too dark

You don't need an ANPR camera to read plates.

It is all about angle, distance, shutter speed, and the right focal length.

Set the shutter to 1/2000 and the image will be all black except for the head and tail lights and the plate.

I've gotta make myself do that. After all, why have an overview cam and not set up the lpr like you said, It's also about going into the cam GUI as you'll never get it right with just the NVR/CAM settings.

I know this so I just need to do it.
