how to improve these night settings?

At one time, I even had color enabled for night settings and got great results. Unfortunately, I didn't save my config from back then. Now, even with slow shutter, I'm not able to get those bright night shots. I don't know what happened. Is something seriously wrong with my camera? I've done what some people have suggested - factory reset and start adjusting shutter and exposure. I'm just stumped how far off the image is.

With mine, changing Backlight mode to SSA was very dramatic in brightening the scene. You might try resetting to defaults, then change it to SSA mode and see what that does. However, a frame-by-frame of the gloriously-bright SSA video on mine showed that it came at the cost of the detail I would need to identify a person's face.

Got my 5421 z12e installed. Directly under my 5442 2.8.. did a bunch of snip & sketch on captured license plates to a USB thumb. Then I was going to be all fancy and put it on this thread and then I forgot the thumb drive at work.:banghead:

Shutter, Gamma, Exp Comp, Sharpness and DNR are all way too high, even brightness for me.

Go back to 50 on most, set shutter to manual 1/60 to start to get a baseline and then 1/120

Turn off backlight

Then play with one control at a time to dial in.

First thing I would check is to make sure your camera's lens is clean. Perform a factory default and start again.

Not even the good image is good for that camera.

All parameters are way too high.
