How does memory card work in Dahua cams?

So I've never used the SD-MMC slot on IP Cams. Always used a network NVR. But I have a few neighbor/friends who may want to install 1 or 2 basic cameras and I might help them. But I think the vast majority of folks won't invest in DVR/cloud service but a 1-time fixed cost memory card is okay.

With that being said, do you just plug in the memory card, then the camera automatically detects (32GB) of storage say, and then it just starts either motion or continuous recording and then automatically wraps around? Then retrieving footage on the iPhone app is the same thing as going to the iDMSS playback?

You'll probably have to format the SD card. Also, bear in mind that SD cards have a write limit and will probably need to be replaced after year or so of service depending on resolution, record frequency and card quality.

Nvr is probably the best solution for them and less hassle. Changing a memory card will require removing the unit and taking it apart each time.

I use memory cards in my cams as backup. If the nvr network goes down for some reason the nvr can retrieve the gap footage from the cam.

Im not sure if the cam would playback in idmss (never tried it). You can set up what you want to record when you log into the Web interface and can view recordings from there aswell.

My personal advice just buy a small nvr it'll save a massive headache for them in the long run. Or if they want to go the blue iris or alternative pc recording route.
