Holy crap, $450 for a WD purple 10TB drive now!

Ok, B&H has the best prices on WD purple drives, but they are out of stock on EVERY model number and size. Amazon has them, but super expensive and many don't give an expected delivery date. I suspect Amazon has a hard time getting them as well

Check best buy? I recently bought a 4tb drive through them and the cost was good. And they had the "previous" model with the bigger cache

Just bought two 14TB purples for $409 each at NewEgg. That is the best $/TB I have found on in stock WD Purple drives in the last four months.

Now I know the purple drives I bought last year do NOT have this "Designed for AI" crap on them. Another marketing ploy

Ok, for some reason, I cannot upload a photo

Yeah I know, a lot of people just dont fight back but I will.
I used to be that way, but the older I get there's less energy available and I let more and more things slide.

Just got this email from WD promoting their AI-ready purple drives. But when you go to their website, none are in stock.

Why send me this?

To be fair, it says discover them, not buy them

Just received the two 14TB drives today from NewEgg. Model# WD142PURP and both were manufactured in September of 2024. When I bought these two, they had three in stock. They now have none.

I took advantage of the 18TB WD Easystore from B&H which they still have for $310.
Yeah, I should have done that back in December when I first started this project.

And now they're out of stock

They have the 16TB for $280 which isn't terrible

I had the same happen on a smaller scale. 4TB Purple at the typical old price $99 at the end of December. Decided to bite the bullet and grab another for $150 a month later when prices first jumped. Price right now is $210.

And memory cards? Fugitaboutit.

I paid $105 for a 4tb in march

I know there was/is a cheaper model. I ordered one and cancelled it when I learned this and compared the specs. I decided to pay the difference.

Curious to know what you consider 'cheaper', and presumably with worse specs? I got the WD43PURZ. It has a larger cache then the WD44PURZ.

$140 at Best Buy
