10TB is no longer the sweet spot, so thats probably also why you're seeing inflated prices

What does one do with an NVR that has a maximum of 20TB (two 10TB drives usually) for storage? I'm guessing an 18TB and a 2 TB?
IME they work fine since I'm running 12/14/16TB in my Dahua 608-64 4kS2 that says only supports 10TB each.
A lot of people buy externals and shuck them to save significant money, but it may void any warranties.

Ok, B&H has the best prices on WD purple drives, but they are out of stock on EVERY model number and size. Amazon has them, but super expensive and many don't give an expected delivery date. I suspect Amazon has a hard time getting them as well

Illegal here in the USA. I've personally warrantied at least 10 of them, no problems. Sometimes they question it say say "As a one time exception" they will cover it
However if they deny you, they are breaking the law

Don't bother with Purples, just buy the cheapest non SMR drives you can

Did I mention I hate anything AI? These big companies are artificially inflating the price to extract every penny out of the consumers.
My RAID 1 14TB volume was getting thin on space, so I figured I'd pick up a 3rd drive and convert to RAID 5, but the price of that drive is double what I paid for 3 years ago. I decided to spend time de-duplicating files to free up space and wait for prices to come down. Long term I may end up running UnRAID so I can maximize use of all my drives.
I realize RAID is probably not used for NVR storage for most folks. I'm just using a 5TB drive for my 4 cameras, and that's plenty to store a week's worth of 24/7 high quality footage.
