Hi, I bought the IP dome Hiwatch series Hikvision sku. HWI-T641H-Z, (2560 × 1440p), 4.0 Megapixel, varifocale motozoom 2.8~12mm optic a while back but only now getting to set it up due to months of lack of time. I'm trying to understand whether I can get this up and running without any proprietary software. The manual indicates that the camera needs to be activate using the SADP software. Can this be done by simply logging into the camera or is it that you activate via the SADP software and then you can uninstall it? What I don't want to do is give HikVision the opportunity to create some sort of "call home" tunnel once I connect to their servers.
The manual also suggests that you can activate via browser. I tried and assigned it an IP but unclear why I can't see stream. Is the live streaming going through a different port number rather than through the default http port? Maybe my router isblocking tha specific port.

Yes, you do not need any software for this and most here do not use that tool.

Most of these cameras are browser dependent. If you are able to log in to the camera but no video is shown, it means you need to use Internet Explorer.

Yeah we know, but that is what the firmware is centered around and it is still available.

  • Open Notepad:
    • Copy then paste the single line of code below into Notepad:
    • CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application").Visible=true
    • Save as OpenIE.vbs
  • Make sure the the file name ends in .vbs not .txt, If it ends in .txt you must rename to .vbs
  • Create a shortcut to the above file and double-click it anytime you want native Internet Explorer.

You must be joking ... do you mean there is no way to use this camera on linux or android. How s**t is that? Have I just chucked 100 euro ... :-(

So you can't connect to the stream using something like VLC? Maybe using the RTSP 554 port?

Do you want good quality cams at reasonable prices or ability to use android apps lol.

We have all been there. Use an old explorer for better cams or buy axis lol.

Yes, that is what is in the manual. Then a few lines down it says "Linux is not supported". And they are even using open source code for the firmware ... updating to latest firmware has not made a difference. I found that you can use Wine+Firefox ESR or there is even a docker that has the software.

Now I'm worried its going to be a big swet to get this camera going in Frigate, despite having read that many have succeeded. We'll see ...
