Hikvision DS-2CD2387G2-LSU/SL Stops recording randomly during the day

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to check if I might have missed anything in my troubleshooting. I’m having an issue with one of my cameras (DS-2CD2387G2-LSU/SL) where it randomly stops recording for around 3–6 hours, typically starts around lunchtime (give or take an hour).

The camera is connected to a PoE switch, and there’s a second camera of the same model on the same switch that’s working without any issues. The switch is connected to a DS-7604NI-K1/4P(B) NVR.

Everything had been working fine for the past year, but this recording issue started within the last week. The problem seems to occur roughly between 12:00 and 20:00, again with some variation.

So far, I’ve:

  • Replaced the PoE switch (even though the other camera is fine)
  • Tested the Ethernet cable to and from the camera
  • Rebooted the NVR
  • Checked the HDD in the NVR
  • Confirmed it’s set to 24/7 continuous recording as it should
  • Verified no settings have been changed and no updates have been made
  • Checked for IP conflicts (none found)
The NVR logs don’t provide much detail, unless I’m missing something. The only entries I can see are repeated “stop record” and “start record” events.

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

I've uploaded some images, 2 days from the past week have been fine, but the pattern in hours is roughly the same, no issues apart from these.

Thanks

Howdy @Thegodlynub ...

The fact that the system used to work and nothing has changed makes me think it would be a hardware issue?... but, since the NVR only has 40 Mbps incoming bandwidth...

Are those the only 2 cameras connected to the NVR?
What max bit rate is set for each of the cameras connected to the NVR?

Random Recording Dropout?

I have a DS-7604NI-K1/4P NVR along with 2 x DS-2CD2347G2-LSU/SL and 1 x DS-2CD2387G2.

The 8mp camera I have an issue where the recording randomly has gaps, as shown in the attached screenshot. I have video loss detection enabled and this doesn't alert at the recording drop out times and the other 2x4MP camera still record fine without issue.

Managed to get to the bottom of this. The 8mp channel max bitrate has defaulted to 12288kbps and I found a post on another forums that said the 4 channel NVRs struggle with it and Hikvison reccomend dropping this to 6144kbps which I've done. Not skipped a beat since.

Hi John,

I have 4 Cameras in total, 2 directly connected into the NVR which are old DS-2CD2363G0-I & I91BF. and the 2 connected via the switch back, This is were I'm probably going to look silly, So the working camera on the switch is set to 6144, and the problematic one is at 512, both are greyed out unless I switch H.265+ to OFF. and the DS-2CD2363G0-I + I91BF connected to the NVR are set at 4096 & 5120 with H.265+ OFF as it was causing issues when set to ON a few years ago. Bitrate is set to Variable on all 4 cameras.

Normally, the problem would be caused by max bit rates settings that are too high and exceeding the NVR incoming bandwidth... but in this case, that 512 setting is weird low... can you post a screen capture of the video settings for that problematic camera, like this...
