Anyone know if you can change the lens on the Hikvision 4k bullet cameras (DS-2CD4A85F-IZ). The stock 12mm is not giving me enough zoom in ability.

I wouldn't, thats not a standard security camera sensor size.. 1/1.7", finding the right optics will cost a fortune and then there is a very high chance it wont fit..

If 4k 12mm is not enough, sounds like you needa PTZ

Does the larger 1/1.7" sensor reduce the camera's ability to zoom in relative to smaller sensor cameras? For example the 4K bullet has a 32.6°angle of view at 12mm (4096 × 2160), while the 3MP mini bullet with a smaller 1/3" sensor has a 20.6°angle of view at 12mm (2048 × 1536)

yes, my 1/1.8 16mm is no wier than my 1/2.8 12mm and my 1/3 12mm is alot narrower.

Geometry..

I can get a very good price on a 2MP 32mm Hikvision EXIR bullet camera that would be a drop in replacement for the same junction box that the 4K camera uses.

1/2.8" sensor
9.1° at 32mm (1920x1080)
328ft IR range (EXIR)

Do you that would work well for reading license plates on a 2 lane street (both lanes)?

perhaps, how far from the camera to the plates?

a 4MP 12mm will do hat just fine, or should.

Thank you very much as always your advice is very helpful. By the way I should have mentioned that the 2MP 32mm is variable focus. On Monday I'll look into a 4MP 12mm fixed. I might also be able to get a 5MP 16mm fixed.
