Herospeed NVR Flashed with Uniview Firmware...lost VCA. Not sure how to go back.

Hi all...

Any help with this would be really appreciated.

I have an unbranded NVR, with a Herospeed board.
I flashed Uniview firmware on it, for reasons unknown even to myself to be honest.

The problem I now have is that my NVR can no longer use VCA with my IPcams (which are also unbranded Herospeed). When the protocol is set to "private", the NVR cannot connect to the cameras... When it's set to ONVIF, VCA is not accessible.
This was not a problem when using the original firmware, and I'm a bit stuck on what to do about fixing it.
The NVR works, it just seems like the Uniview firmware has a protocol issue with the herospeed cameras when using "private".

This is the original info dumped from my NVR before I flashed it:

Current version: B3631P11C33040
New Pub version: NVR-B3610.31.11.C33040.250717
Inerversion: GNVRV300R006B10D031SP11C33040
Board type: NVR301-16S3-P8
Uboot version: 1.09
Build date: 2025-07-17 17:53

DEVICE_NAME:901_258
DEVICE_SERIAL_NUMBER:210235U-Blanked the rest.
MAC_ADDRESS:2C6F-Blanked the rest
MANUFACTURING_DATE:2023-09-24
VENDOR_NAME:Herospeed
REGION_CODE:IN
BUILD_INFO:NONE
CUSTOMER_CODE:02
TEST_TRACKING_NUMBER:208
E_LABEL_VER:1.3
PROTOTYPE_NAME:NVR301-16S3-P8-DT

I'm now on Unview firmware NVR-B3610.35.48.260701, which is causing the VCA issue.

Is there anything I can do to get back onto Herospeed firmware? I tried one from their website but it wouldn't flash, I think it's because the date was older... Or maybe just completely wrong.

Thankyou!

Going by the info you dumped, that NVR is actually a Uniview board sold under the Herospeed name. NVR301-16S3-P8 is a Uniview model, and 210235 is how Uniview serial numbers start. The C33040 at the end of your original version string looks like the customer code for Herospeed's custom build, so the stock Uniview firmware is probably missing whatever Herospeed added to let "private" talk to their own cameras. On generic Uniview firmware, private most likely only means Uniview's protocol.

That would also explain why the file from the Herospeed site wouldn't take, since it's probably for their own NVR boards rather than this Uniview based one. So I'd stop trying random files and:

1. Ask the seller or Herospeed support for that exact build (B3610.31.11.C33040 or anything newer ending in C33040). Send them the board type and the original version info you saved, that's exactly what they'll need.
2. If they send it and the NVR still refuses it, it may be blocking a downgrade from the newer 260701 build. Uniview support can sometimes tell you whether that board allows going back, or provide an in between version that does.

Good call saving that info before flashing, it makes this a lot easier to sort out.

Thanks for replying!

I got ai to do a side by side comparison of the systemreport.txt before and after. Whilst there was no mention of protocols, there were numerous ports opened and closed from one firmware to the other. I think I might be screwed...

Unfortunately the seller has gone out of business, which is how I got the NVR in the first place (auction).
I tried emailing support @ herospeed . net but I've got a delivery error. They seem to hide their email pretty well!

I might see if Uniview can help too whilst I look for another Herospeed contact email.

Do you think I'm probably out of luck?
