The real story of Thanksgiving isn’t a warm, fuzzy tale about harmony with the natives—it’s the moment early Americans abandoned a disastrous experiment in communal property and embraced the incentives that make human flourishing possible. For all the socialist fervor that’s swept up Gen Z, the Pilgrims already tried the “abolish private property” model, and it led to starvation, plague, and collapse. If we want to banish these bad ideas to the dustbin of history, parents need to inoculate their kids against the utopian sales pitch.
