I do not clearly understand your question/goal but this NVR can use both H.265 and H.264 cameras, now question is do you want to record (convert) video files on disk using H.265 format whenever you use H.264 cameras ?Hi guys, I want to set up an Nvr with 4 cams, and I bought the NVR that support h265+ DS-7604NI-K1/4P(b).
Now I am about to get the cams, but I have a question?
In order to record H265+ should I get cameras that support h265+ too, or the nvr could handle that?
You've made a wonderfull clever robotic answer H265+ needs H265+, but what I am interested in is the reason of such question why does he want (need ?) to record using H.265+, he wants to absolutely record into H.265+ format to optimize storage space whenever camer'as source is not H.265+ but "only" H.264 or may be he is only a beginner that may not know that he can use "lower" camera's codec and the NVR will still work, but until that I prefer to ask him because unlike you I am not 100% sure I understand the reason/goal of the question.I have fully understood his question which is why I have answered it above.
The cam has to be a h265+
If you get a cam that isn't h265+ the nvr won't record it at h265+

So I am on the fence between two cameras DS-2CD2420F-I and DS-2CD2455FWD-IW. One is basic old 2mp h264 the other is 5mp far better with lots of features and h265+ and because I will need 4 cams price difference is exactly £200. So I thought maybe I will be fine with 2mp but at least I was hoping to save some storage, bandwidth and money.
