I'm sure this has been discussed here, but somehow my thread search didn't come up with relevant results.

Maybe I'm missing something, but is it not the case that given the current state of the FCC ban on approval of new devices from Hik, Dahua, et al...
that barring any major regulatory/legal changes there will never be any Hik devices made after 2022 sold in the US?

We haven't installed Hik equipment in a couple years and I wasn't aware of the current state of things until I saw that ebay had removed everything
but back boxes from these companies. A client has tasked us with replacing a couple dead Hik cameras and replacing their NVR to allow additinoal
cameras. I've always like Hik for the value/capabilities, but it seems like it would be irresponsible to stick a client with a dead ended system.

Am I missing something? ADI still has tons of Hik & Dahua gear for sale and they have yet to give me a straight answer on this.

Thanks. I did read that thread already, but that was generally just folks complaining when their ebay listings were removed two months ago or musing that ebay just let their AI bots make new policy by misreading the FCC ban language. Obviously now, when the only Hik/Dahua listings on ebay are back boxes, its clear that their lawyers got notice of FCC putting more teeth in the ban and ebay decided to steer clear of the issue completely. Anyway, that discussion didn't really touch on my main question, which is:

Are US customers only able to buy 3+ year old Hik/Dahua devices at this point, with distributors running sales with deep discounts on dead end products likely to have limited support over the next few years? Am I missing something?

Trusted vendor @EMPIRETECANDY sells Dahua OEM that is more recent and has been going thru the hoops for FCC approval, so until that changes, that is where to go to get Dahua gear:

Thanks for your input. I've read a bunch of the relevant FCC proceedings and actions recently and all signs point to any "loopholes" that have been used to sell newer re-branded equipment from any company on FCC's covered list will be closing up in short order. I could be wrong, but from everything I've read, the FCC has not authorized for import or sale in US anything made by (or including components made by) Hik/Dahua after 2022. I'm sure there are vendors getting away with what they can while they can, but that doesn't strike me as a sustainable solution inspiring confidence with ongoing tech/firmware support.

for reference, in case you want to know more about this:

excerpt from IPVM's story on equipment bans:

"US - FCC Ban

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) banned Dahua and Hikvision from new equipment authorizations in November 2022. Most products that use electricity require FCC equipment authorizations; otherwise, they are illegal to import, sell, market, or use, even for private individuals.

This came after the companies were declared "a threat to national security" by the FCC in 2021. An April 2024 decision by the US Court of Appeals upheld the ban after Dahua and Hikvision sued the FCC.

Models which received authorizations prior to November 2022 are not affected, though the FCC said it would consider revoking existing authorizations in the future.

The FCC has established a pathway for Hikvision and Dahua to receive further equipment authorizations if they propose sufficient measures to ensure products are not marketed or sold for prohibited purposes - i.e. public safety, critical infrastructure, national security, and government facilities - but as of July 2024, the FCC has not granted an exemption."
