Emergency Power/Storms/Prepping etc

Don't do the 5 min test. 5 Mins is not enough time for the engine to get to operating temperature and will not burn off moisture in the oil. Moisture in oil is bad news for the engine

Even Generac have a page on this

The monthly test should be good enough to fix the issue, but just increase the time to avoid it entirely. At the end of that month there is still moisture in the oil before it burns off, which is bad news
They don’t have a weekly test that can run longer than 5 minutes if I recall so that is why I do a full load once a month. It’s easy using genmon.

Does your area have a "doomsday" encrypted communication network?

I've been tinkering with Meshtastic (MT) and Meshcore (MC). So far it's been a bust for me.

So far MT has been a huge dissapointment for me. Everyone is using medium-fast in SoFla (which is not the recommended default and deviates from the rest of Florida), which doesn't work for me becase i am in the first fresnel zone of another building 100 feet away, even with an outdoor solar node at 45' elevation. I can hear 250+ medium-fast nodes but can't communicate with any of them unless i am on top of an intercostal bridge or the jupiter lighthouse. Medium-fast basically requires LOS, without exception. Not sure why SoFla deviated from the rest of Florida, which are all on long-fast. I can hear and communicate with other long-fast nodes, validated with actual communication and trace routes. MC on the other hand I can only hear repeaters, which is basically useless since i can't hear any other clients to communicate with. seems like both MT and MC are not ready as an emergency communication method during natural disasters. so I have to live on an isolated long-fast island in SoFla. Great idea, but not very practical at this stage IMHO. I suspect those claiming both MT and MC are the greatest thing since sliced bread have a vested interest in promoting such technologies. Sorry to be so cynical, but as the old saying goes, "if you want to find the truth in anything, follow the $."
