I had a listing for 3 of the same Dahua cameras removed by eBay yesterday due to national security concerns. See below for the email they sent:

Hello,

We had to remove one or more of your listings for not following our Electronic equipment policy. We understand that this must be frustrating. But don’t worry — we’re here to help!

What happened

Most electronic equipment used to transmit or receive signals or for surveillance are not allowed.

This product can't be sold on eBay because the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has deemed it to pose an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States or the security and safety of United States persons. For more details, see the FCC List of Equipment and Services Covered by Section 2 of the Secure Networks Act:
What this means for you

You can remain focused on your business. To protect you, we removed listings that didn't follow this policy. - We have credited any associated fees, except for transaction fees for your sold listing(s).

Because you may not have been aware of this policy, we're sending this notice to educate you about it.

These listings are still in your Active Listings folder in My eBay and Seller Hub so you can view them. However, new buyers can't purchase them, shoppers can't see them, and you will not be charged additional listing fees for them. You can end them to move them out of Active Listings.

Listings that don't follow this policy in the future will be removed.

This determination was made using automation or artificial intelligence. This came to our attention through automated detection.

Review your listings

The easiest way to avoid this in the future is to ensure that your current and future listings follow this policy. Please don't relist items that aren't allowed.

More about this policy

The following types of electronic equipment are not allowed:

  • Appliances for sale in California that do not meet applicable efficiency standards
  • Cameras and recording devices that include images or text that states or implies the device can be used to record others without their knowledge
  • Cameras that are embedded in other objects or that are designed to look like other objects, such as toothbrush holders, stuffed toys, clocks, or electrical outlets
  • CB amplifiers and radio equipment that operate in both CB and HAM frequencies
  • Electricity- or energy-saving devices that claim to reduce electricity consumption
  • Electronic items prohibited by government agencies, including cell phone, GPS radar, and other signal jamming devices. See the FCC's Jammer Enforcement page for more information
  • Equipment not authorized by the FCC, such as low-power transmitting devices, high frequency transceivers, cordless telephones, radar detectors, and items on the FCC covered list
  • Light bulbs in the home that do not meet energy efficiency standards defined by the Department of Energy, including incandescent and halogen light bulbs
  • Traffic light control devices

In order to comply with government regulations and help prevent privacy violations, we don’t allow the sale of certain electronic items on eBay.

Now I purchased these cameras FROM eBay earlier in the year, but for some reason they are now banned from being sold. There are literally THOUSANDS of cameras listed on eBay right now that also fit this policy criteria. I appealed their decision, but they said the decision stands, removed and if it is listed again, they will remove it, can suspend my account and/or remove my feedback status. What in the actual fuck?

Weird. There are as you say thousands of Dahua ads and Dahua equipment for sale right now on EBay

Yeah, something doesn't add up. This is a discriminatory action by eBay. How is it those listings are ok, but my 3 measly cameras will bring the national security of the US? I can't stand eBay anymore

Are you selling them for more than you paid and the original seller found out and is being petty and filed a complaint?
Nope. I paid 20% more than what I am selling them for. I don't have a use for them, so I listed them on the same place I purchased them. They were listed for $30 each or best offer, but I would be happy to get $60 total plus shipping to pass them on.

Maybe your crazy neighbor? But wow to find you on ebay unless he new your ID?
Not saying it's not possible, but that's a stretch. And how would he get my user ID? He would have to have access to my network to know that info and I changed my whole network around, new router, new passwords, etc. I disconnect my laptop which is using a wired ethernet connection from the network when not using it, disabled Wi-Fi on the laptop and ATT equipment and the only items (phones) using wi-fi are on a guest network with only permission to access the internet only - no connections to the rest of the network

Oh I agree, but you are being targeted for some reason.

I just did a search and over 11,000 Dahua items are for sale.

You did think he was hacking into your system at one point, so it is possible if he were hacking.

I guess anything is possible, but I changed everything but the ATT modem in the network, changed ALL passwords and pins and disabled wi-fi on all devices except my phone and my wife's phone which is connected to the guest account with internet only access. Everything else is a wired ethernet connection. Again, I guess not impossible for someone who is good at hacking, but they definitely have their work cut out for them

Maybe it is someone else selling the same cams and trying to remove the competition?

Something just doesn't seem right.

I guess anything is possible these days. Issues like this and others is why I try not to deal with cameras anymore. There's no point in engaging in something if you have to put up with issues - life is short and getting shorter by the day. I can spend my time and money elsewhere and be just as tired and broke. When it's no longer enjoyable, it's time to move on.

Partly why I have boxes of old cameras. Not worth the hassle of trying to sell and dealing with the scammer that will claim it doesn't work and blah blah blah.

I got them around as spares or give-a-ways when a friend/neighbor needs one.

The only way the neighbors would get one from me is express service

What they are doing to list their Dahua cameras is Remove the D or change the spelling to avoid detection. It is happening to Hikvision too. Weird stance from eBay to be honest. Like why do they care?

ebay can be a real PITA

I recall attempting to sell some extra MicroSoft OEM software we had from work and got shutdown on that .. that's where I learned a pile on "You really do not own this stuff that you paid for, be happy we do not alter this deal further"

Now on a serious note this explains why so many listings I had in my watched list were suddenly gone a week ago. Had a bunch of Hikvision and Dahua and manually going to them said they violated rules and were delisted.
