Wait a minute...I may have misunderstood the court's final verdict regarding Mercer (the big dude / defendant) because I watched it with the audio off so as to not awake my wife...was Mercer found guilty of assault?

I sure hope not.

He was found not guilty, but had the cost and time of defending himself being brought up on charges of assault.

I've got to start reading slower, I guess and not miss important words such as "NOT." Last month I misread a letter from my medical insurance provider, thinking they had disallowed a CT scan and I got upset, wife picked it up, read it and gave me the good news.
