Did Dahua go out of business?

If the buyer/end user doesn't have access to the products it's not a very sound business model. Such as in my case, Dahua lost the opportunity to make future sales. I'm sure I'm not the only one. as for what their intent is, I couldn't care less.
Because of the current economic times, your best bet is to ride your current cameras until they die. The path to upgrading is worthless, unless there is something profoundly worth craving for in the newest models which to be honest isn't all that much. The 5442 series is the best IP camera on the market from a quality and cost-perspective. Nothing rivals the 5442 series unless you have the cash to spend hundreds of dollars on premium brands like Axis, Bosch, etc.

@wittaj is right, that Andy's competition has shrank tremendously. There are installers that rely ultimately on Andy's Empiretech brand. Because of rising political and economic tensions between US-and-China, it will not surprise me if in the near future, his business approach in the states shrinks as well especially due to recent MINIMUM 15% increase in prices announcement by him which goes into effect TOMORROW FEBRUARY 15TH. I don't know what his approach will be with customers that want volume-pricing for elaborate installs, but I cannot think of any US-Brand (which are somewhat rebrands) that can still match the price and quality of Andy's cameras. Even with a 15% increase in prices, his cameras are still going to be desirable versus the competition. What really sucks at the moment is Amazon and their fulfillment centers - they cannot even package a camera right nor do they handle cameras correctly; they even mix up inventory between other sellers as well as Amazon Resale and New items. Andy does direct fulfillment within the states as well and has a small operation out of Pennsylvania (I wonder if his business partner is present on this forum), but the quantity and availability are questionable - thus his cameras are largely shipped either via Amazon or directly from China.

If you are concerned over end-user support, you have the best support there is on this forum as well as Andy's presence. If you are still not convinced, I can only suggest Ubiquiti cameras as your next resort but TRUST ME - you will be disappointed with overall performance, unless you prioritize aesthetics and fancy web user interface graphics. Most of us on this forum favor 24/7 Performance and practicality and this is where Andy's cameras come in.

I like to think of Andy as an independent seller even though he outright has direct ties with Dahua, but the point is he has been transparent and honest in almost every business aspect; nobody is perfect, but at least he has tried to make us happy despite the tensions between the US and China.

Looks like it's time for me to abandon Dahua and go with another brand. It makes no sense to me that a company would pick and chose who it sells it's products to, especially when it chooses to eliminate to majority of the buying public. But what do I know. :rolleyes:
It's like Hikvision, Axis, Uniview, Avigilion and many other CCTV brands.

Selling through distributors is how manufactures hide the price from end users and let installers get a good cut.
Then installers keep using the products for their projects.
Ubiquiti/Reo-crap doesn't give installation advice/training/system commissioning help for installers.
 
If all you want is still pictures, the new cameras "beat the pants" off of the 5442s.

Clarification: (in relation to the 54PRO series)
“Still pictures” being images captured at night from a scene with no movement in it”

Once movement is introduced, (at night or low light most noticeably) the moving object - car, human, gopher, giraffe, is heavily distorted with AI processed noise primarily due to a cheap inadequate sensor.

This can be largely overcome by introducing extreme amounts of external white light, or dialing back sharpness and increasing NR to the extent that the moving object is extremely soft lacking good detail.

The camera I ordered from Amazon just arrived and it's a genuine, factory sealed Hikvision so I guess it's not too bad. I ordered this for 2 reasons, one to check out a POE NVR I just bought and 2 to use as a hallway cam. It was cheap so I'm not really expecting much. I'm sure I'll have to deal with low light performance but I've been there before. Nowhere in the listing does it say it's a Hikvision. That seems kinda strange to me. Why not advertise that it's a world known brand?

It would be banned at port then if it came to know it was a Hikvision

Also, I am not sure if the T54Pro is necessarily using a cheaper sensor, but its in desperate need of firmware update based on what users here are saying; I am not using SSA and that is likely the reason why I am not seeing every issue users are reporting here

Do these price increases only apply to the US?

I’m in the UK and have purchased all my cams from Andy, no complaints on the cams and the service that Andy provides.
