can i run a network cable form a poe output to a powered poe switch which runs about 6 cameras as I dont seem to be able to get my hands on the Dahua NVR5216-8p i/l which would be more suitable but cant seem to find somewhere to buy it as i wanted some of the AI features it offers.

Just out of curiosity, where would you get your NVR5216-16p-I from?
I see your location says New Kiwi-land :).

I recently got the same model in NZ for a really good price (but that was a one-off).

You gotta get in touch with Andy. Just got a NVR5216-16P-I/L from him last week. Got cause I needed the AI. Works really good, bit of a learning curve coming over from a lorex and NVR.

Same experience here. It's a great device.

Best feature of this version is supporting AI on the NVR. That means you could you any generic ONVIF camera and the AI (face recognition, line crossing, etc) is done on the recorder. Also can be used for older Dahua cameras that do not support AI functions.

Any tips on using DMSS? Get 3-5, sometimes more alert notification per camera when person or vehicle detected, phone dings continuously. I look at it and its sending one every 1-2 seconds. So if it takes a car ten seconds to drive past, I get ten notifications from one camera. :wow: Used to one notification per alert. Also, any tips on the NVR, have had it for about a week and a half now.

Are you using Video structuration or another feature or detection?
That's what this object classing is:




I use simple IVS rules on areas I want to monitor. Then when something crosses I get an alert that a car or person crossed it.
Video structuration is great for logging everything it sees. I use it on a camera that has an overview of the area, but not for alerts.

I use one IVS rule, "Full screen." I had multiple IVS rules that would intersect each other to cover two roads. Thought it was going off for each IVS rule. Are you talking about the main screen with all the cams displaying , if you right click go down to "Live Mode" and select "AI Mode" then Pick the attributes, i.e. Top, Bottom, Hat, etc? I have all those off and only have channel and time selected.
 
Each camera sends an alert when any IVS rule is triggered. There maybe ways to change this, but that is what I have found.
My advice would be to just have the IVS for a line crossing.

The video above is another mode I thought you could be referring to.

So, set up tripwire instead of intrusion?

Just set IVS for the area when you want an alert. It can be an intrusion or line.

IF you want vehicle or person detection, then use the NVR to process that AI.


I'll get this straight:
Most Dahua cameras have IVS onboard.
So you can let the camera do IVS rules and then make the NVR do object classification.

This NVR can let the camera do it's own AI or the NVR will do it for the camera.

So here is the camera and I have told the camera to do it's own IVS. I set this to send an alert when it is triggered.

Then the NVR does AI for object classification for that camera. This generates a big database of all objects it's seen and you can search with it.

I'm using the NVR to do the IVS rule. I don't have Dahua cams, wish I started that way. Thats why I just bought this NVR for $781.00 from Andy. Had Lorex NVR and cams that don't have IVS.

Thanks for the help, will have to pick this up tomorrow. I'm on the other side of the world, got to hit the sack.

Alrighty,
Sadly the NVR will only do one AI function for the camera.

However.... you could try getting around this by adding the same camera as another video channel on the NVR..... it means you'd take away an extra video channel but it would give another round of AI.

Not Sure still looking haven't found any decent prices in NZ yet other than ascent.co.nz may have to get it from Australia or through andy at empiretech or some other source. where did you pick yours up from

I got mine on TradeMe from a security place that used it as a demo.

Price I got it for was the same for me to buy 2 6TB Skyhawk drives from PB-tech.... and then it turned up with two 6TB Skyhawks installed lol.
More than a bargain on that one.

The only NZ seller I know of is IOT-Wholesale in Auckland.

At the prices these go for, I would seriously just buy a decent computer and ran Blue-Iris on it.

I bought this off TradeMe advertised as the unit plus a 6TB drive, that was a bargain and well worth it. If I bought it for the price above, I'd be a bit disappointed.

I got my NVR5216-16P-I/L from Andy EmpireTech (though Amazon) $720 plus shipping came to $781, no hard drive.

and for @moviefan , PB tech currently have 6tb Skyhawks at $270nzd on sale.
