Great thread @steve1225 ... one can hope we'll see those larger (and better) sensor soon.
That dashcam videos were impressive (albeit looks like some NR smearing in the shadows) ... and are NOT a thousand dollars ... so how come they are able to already have STARVIS2 sensors?
I.e. Any insights on why the hold-up on putting into network camera's?

dashcam manufacturer are more motivated (there are hundreds of dashcam brands - but in reality all are produced by three maybe four companies)..
in case of Dahua / HIK - this can be politics (actual war between China and USA) and product cycles (PRO and Ultra line for Dahua cams have 3 years cycle - we are now in second one)...

Something tells me that this is what the Ubiquiti G6 Pro Turret uses since it also utilizes IR light, need a full teardown to confirm this as Ubiquiti fails to disclose technical detailsInteresting is that Sony have a new IMX585 STARVIS2 1/1.2" sensor.
It is NIR enhanced (so supports IR) and Clear HDR - so supports HDR/WDR where two frames with high and low gain are done in exact the same time - there is no chroma aberrations in HDR/WDR..
Older one IMX485 used in 5849 / Color4K cams wasn't NIR enhanced - so it had problems to see full IR spectrum...
This is way all cams which used this sensor were only white light..
There is high probability that next generations of Dahua cams with 1/1.2" will support hybrid light (IR and white light)..

Also, something to bear in mind, it wouldn't surprise me if Chinese CCTV brands set a preferential to using sensors sourced EXCLUSIVELY from Chinese manufacturers [SmartSens sensor]. Remember that Sony is not a Chinese company even though TCL recently scooped up Sony's television display department.
