Hello,

I've proposal for very large project about installing CCTV camera over city, we are looking into 400 CCTV tower with around 5-6 installed on each tower, so in total we have around 2200 IP Camera and around 150 PTZ camera.

All locations are connected via fiber optic cables.

Before I've worked on over 500 Hikvision IP Camera in 1 location and used around 4 256-NVR, Honestly Using NVR was bad idea, but it was cheaper than using VMS (which is 100$ per Camera).

Now for this project I'm looking into having all camera in 1 software with Multiple computers connected to all camera, and 1 Master PC with very huge wall TV.

For those who worked on very large projects like this what do you recommend?

  1. Hikvision Or different Camera branch that suit this project more?
  2. What type of CCTV tower, any special specs I should look for?
  3. Should use directly Fiber optic camera, or just POE camera and install Outdoor box, Outdoor switch on each tower?
  4. What software should use for that? VMS, Or there's better software?
  5. What hardware needed to handle decode and display ?
  6. Video Wall or LED Display Wall ? or if there's better options for that.
Thank you very much

Why even ask questions like this? If you have to ask, you are over your head. This certainly isn't a project that you want to "cut your teeth on." It should be left to the professionals with years of experience in mega sized projects.

You'll obviously need a very large amount of processing power to handle 2200 cameras. This is going to require multiple servers with a smaller subset of cameras running on each machine. That's just the processing power..... Then you have to worry about the problem of storage. You'll need a centralized storage solution IMHO. Obviously the capture resolution/quality will greatly influence how much storage you might need, but I don't think it is unreasonable to thing that you'll need something like 8-10 petabytes of storage for 30 days worth of coverage.

LED walls are easy and you can make them any size you want. Of course there is no chance of seeing all 2200 cameras on the screen at the same time, so you'll need some sort of solution to handle the management of camera groups and have the ability to switch between them.

There's no "professionals" company here locally that work on very large network projects like this, and at the end we all learn especially from each other experience.
Storage is not something I'm going to worry about right now, as I've more important stuff to worry about, and storage is not complex thing.

Thank you for your information

Have you priced out storage? A 10 petabyte solution here in the US would cost some serious money (likely over a million dollars). Just for the storage..... The entire project would cost multiple millions of dollars here in the US. My uneducated, back of the napkin calculations puts it north of 10 million dollars (assuming construction costs including the towers, utilities/fiber at each tower, etc, etc, etc). Yet you just want to "wing it?" Good luck.

As for the cost is approximal calculated, I know it will cost millions yet there's no efficient security company can do the job good here, so I'm taking it myself.
I'm here asking for those who work on large projects, what's their experience, tips, and how it could be done better.
thank you
