Continuous recording breaks UI3 alert playback

I switched from triggered recording to continuous, and now when I attempt to view any but the most recent alerts in UI3, I get the orange clock symbol in the top right. It seems to be pegging out the server's CPU at 100%. Afterwards, I can't even reopen the UI3 website until I restart the Blue Iris service or the server itself. I record direct to disk and use Intel GPU accelerated decoding. The machine is fairly beefy. It's an i7-8559U with 8GB of RAM and SSD storage. Any suggestions?
 
I've been using BVR since it was the default. Is there anything special that needs to be configured to use continuous recordings with alerts?
