trying to figure this issue out
no idea what it is,

so for starters
i use zero tier + BI (on iphone)
had no issues for long time, other then when i leave house wifi and it goes to phone internet it takes a little bit for camera's to be visible again as its switching over

issue i have now is this...
BI works great, im at home, i leave home.. i get down the road and BI suppose to work.. i am getting alerts from BI that camera, i see the alert, however when i try to open it, it just trys to load load load, i turn zero tier off and on , phone off and on, BI log out log in, no change
randomly, sometimes within 5 minutes, somtimes 30, sometimes 50, as the alerts are coming in, it starts to work again and i can open alert, or the thumbnail comes up on the alert

I'm having better results with Tailscale. moved from Zerotier. using the BI app on iphone. recently (Last 24 hours lol) began tinkering with UI3 remotely using the Tailscale IP address copied from BI App. I may try to encourage some simple folk in the house to try it over the Amcrest NVR app.

I tried zerotier when I was new to all of this and could never get it to work. I have been using tailscale for over a year with practically no issues aside from an update changing my BI machines IP which was easily fixed by updating the new IP in BI and on my phones app.

Download Tailscale on both your BI machine and phone, make sure there under the same Tailscale account and it is connected on both devices. On your BI machine go to the toolbar at the bottom, click on the Tailscale icon and that is the IP you want to remember. Then in BI go to settings, web server, and under the LAN click on the adaptors and select your Tailscale IP. Enter the Tailscale LAN and your WAN in the mobile app and you should be good to go.

Damn that sounds actually really simple
I will try this tomorrow

This step is unnecessary unless you've got the "Bind exclusively" box checked, and there's no reason to do that.

just wanted to clarify

  • tailscale app - i do nothing in here other then have both devices (BI machine + phone connected)
  • in BI on PC - do i need to enter the tailscale IP into the "WAN" area? or leave it empty
  • in BI on phone - enter LAN of BI and WAN of tailscale?

also a side note, are you able to receive alerts from 2 BI systems at same time ?

i.e. home system, work system 2 separate BI Machines

I believe that is correct.

You don't need to enter anything there.

  • in BI on phone - enter LAN of BI and WAN of tailscale?

Tailscale IP can go in both fields if you keep tailscale connected all the time on the phone. If you don't keep tailscale connected on the phone while at home, then you should only enter the tailscale IP in the WAN field and let LAN be set to the LAN address of the Blue Iris machine.

No idea. Maybe someone else can answer this. But I suspect the answer is yes.

so i have phone + BI machine added to tailscale on PC
i did nothing on the BI machine settings on PC
and i have tailscale on the phone, added WAN (tailscale IP) and left LAN as BI machine IP
it does not let me connect, did i miss a step ?

I don’t understand what issue it could be
Nothing has been changed
Does it on 2 different BI MACHINES
With 2 different phones
Just saying it's not Zerotier. I am currently using it on 3 systems and they all work fine. I would just forward the BI port on your router to confirm that BI and phone app are configured properly, once that works fine then remove the port forwarding rule and move on to whatever VPN you choose.

Do you get long delay when you leave your wifi for you to be able to view the system on BI app on phone ?
That’s something I have always had as well
From time I leave wifi till I can see cameras on BI app was always like 4 5 minutes

No I do not experience any delays. Try going to BI settings/webserver/advanced/configure button for streaming 0 and and click use defaults. See if that speeds up your clips. Also, on phone app check your wan encoder profile. It may be set too high.

LAN is set to 256
WAN is set to 512
I’ll check the other one as soon as I’m at machine again

Out of curiosity do you have both things checked on zero tier?

Enable default route
Enable on demand

Also do you by chance know how to pull push data from 2 BI machine at same time ?
I have a home and work network and just kinda sucks I can’t pull from both at same time
