Can I use DMSS on a TV to view recordings from my BCS NVR?

Hi everyone,

I have a BCS NVR16025ME-II recorder connected to several Dahua cameras.

I can view and search recorded footage from the cameras on my Android phone using the DMSS app. I find the playback function in DMSS significantly better and more convenient than the playback interface built into the NVR.

My current setup is as follows:

  • NVR: BCS NVR16025ME-II
  • TV: LG 65NANO806PA running webOS
  • Connection: The NVR is connected to the TV via HDMI and is also connected to the Internet.
  • Mobile app: DMSS on an Android phone

I would like to view and search recorded footage on my TV in a similar way to how I do this using DMSS on my phone.

Is there a way to achieve this?

For example:

1. Can DMSS be installed and used on an Android TV or Google TV device connected to my LG TV?
2. Would a Xiaomi TV Stick or another Android/Google TV device be suitable?
3. Would sideloading the DMSS Android app work, including its playback and search functions?
4. Are there any better alternatives for viewing and searching recordings from my BCS/Dahua NVR on a TV?

I am primarily interested in searching and playing back recorded footage, not just viewing live camera feeds.

I would appreciate any advice from anyone who has tried a similar setup.

Thanks in advance!

I've sideloaded the Android-based 'Tinycam Pro' on a Google TV and streamed RTSP sucessfully from Dahua and Amcrest cameras and from Blue Iris.

I've sideloaded the Fire-OS version of VLC onto an older Firestick and streamed RTSP sucessfully from Blue Iris onto it, was plugged into the HDMI port of a dumb TV.

Since the LG is not Android-based I think your best bet it to use one of the Android-based plug-in sticks you mentioned and try DMSS, as Tinycam Pro and VLC don't perform the footage searches anywhere near as well as DMSS would.

Also, just be aware that Amazon is replacing the Android-based Fire OS with its own Linux-based Vega OS on all future Fire TV Sticks.

Thank you for your response TonyR. I specifically want to use DMSS with all its features, especially the bar where events are displayed. Before I go ahead and buy a stick, for example, I’d like to know if anyone has had a positive experience with it.

You may be able to "cast your screen" from your Android to the LG TV. Then you could use DMSS to view the live view & playback. Obviously your Android LG TV needs to be on the same LAN/WI-FI.
