Camera not switching to night vision.

Hello, I have a DS-7616NXI-K2/16P NVR with a mixture of dome cameras. I have one POE channel who's camera doesn't switch to night vision but works ok throughout the day. The camera is a DS-2CD2142FWD-I, one of 7 on the NVR. The current NVR is an upgrade from a DS-7608NI-K2-8P that is why some of the cameras are considered legacy. The rest of the dome cameras work ok. I have the old NVR in my garage as a test system, so I have removed the offending camera and popped it on my test system and it works ok at night. Return it to the business location, same channel and it fails. As a test I have tried a different camera on that channel and it exhibits the same night symptoms. AI has suggested that the channel profile for the camera has become corrupt. Has any of you guys come across this before. I welcome any input. Apologies for the long post.

You tested in different locations.

So, could be newer NVR or location issue.

I am guessing firmware on the camera needs to be updated.

AI gave me the following answer :
"The Hikvision DS-2CD2142FWD-I was first released in Autumn 2015.

Since its initial launch, Hikvision has issued several minor hardware revisions and firmware updates, with the model eventually being discontinued and superseded by newer series like the EasyIP 2.0+ (e.g., the DS-2CD2143G0-I) around 2018"

Looking at the specs I see a 1/3" 4MP sensor .. personally could be a better value to get a newer camera that works with the newer NVR instead of attempting a firmware update.
( depends on how much your time is worth vs price of a newer camera )

Hi, thanks for your input. The confusing issue here is that I have 6 other DS-2CD2142FWD-I on the newer NVR that are working fine day and night! All at firmware V5.4.5.

Sounds like power. IR draws more juice.

Possibly the NVR output with all of the other cameras combined hitting a max or a cable problem not allowing the extra juice when IR kicks in … my first guesses

From a power perspective the NVR POE limit is 200W. The total night time power consumption of the 11 cameras I have on the NVR totals approx. 63 watts. so there is plenty of capacity. I take on board your idea of a cable issue which I will check out, thanks.

I literally hear this first time. I work in cctv industry for about 15 years, never had an issue with IP behaving like that. Lets put aside stronger PTZ models that actually need PoE+.
 
Agree that output from the NVR is possible. That’s why I mentioned it first

But yes plenty of cases here in the forum over the years of power issues due to kinked/damaged/corroded cables ..

I would check the settings first. In the NVR, go into the "Image" settings and find that camera (channel). You will look for "Day/Night Switch". By default the camera should be on auto. Then there is the "sensitivity" for switching. This is basically how dark does it have to be before the IR comes on. Before you adjust the sensitivity I would look at "Supplement Light". The supplement light mode should list "IR". If it says off then it would not click on the IR when the time comes. If it looks good there.... Log directly into your camera and check the settings from the camera side. Are the settings matching what you see on the NVR side? If there is lets say incompatibilities of your NVR being able to control your camera then you would just set those settings on the camera side. If there is partial compatibility.... then you can go on the camera, create a new user name to use on the NVR. When creating this user name, limit the permissions so the NVR itself is not able to change the settings that you set from the camera directly.

I would also physically check if the IR is working by going out at night and see if you see the faint red glow. Since you said if the camera is connected to the old NVR and it works fine then I would go with the instructions above. You may even log into the camera and default it to factory to let the NVR "activate and load it back on the NVR to see if that fixes the issue if there is a setting that is causing the IR to not work.
 
Isn't there a past thread about IR filters getting stuck? or isn't that even a thing anymore? or with this model of camera? Just thinking out loud.
Maybe a good couple of taps when it should be in IR mode.
 
IR filter getting stuck is still a thing. Usually it stems from rough handling of the camera before installation..... Such as dropping the camera while still in packaging. Another would be voltage differences powering up the camera. But yeah... A few taps with a rubber mallet usually will unstick it.
