Can I get away with the less expensive 4mp 1/2.9" for a well lit building exterior? This is for a smaller church so of course there are budget constraints. The <$100 price is very appealing. I am in need for 4 cameras for the exterior and 2 for the interior.

You would be surprised how much light is needed.

A cheaper 2MP on roughly the same size sensor would likely be better.

But what is the goal - to IDENTIFY or just be able to look around and see what is going on?

Mostly to just see what is going on. There are numerous cameras inside and outside the building so if something were to happen, I would hope there is enough footage to help identify. I am looking to replace some old 720p analog cams on an old NVR but I do have a few IP cams on a BI machine. Thoughts on using the less expensive 2mp on the exterior and use the 4mp on the interior where there is less light at night?

You should be ok then using the 4MP.

Inside you benefit from IR reflection off the walls that you can get away with a less than ideal MP/sensor ratio.

IPC-T24IR-AS 2.8mm this camera can be a great choice for your installing.
