Getting the hang of it

So within some time i'm going to move houses with my partner,

in the new house i'm planning in total 15-18 cameras due to couple sheds, 2 common ports of entry, and a 3rd point of entry normally hidden behind closed gate (Manure storage location from horses next to a public road but gives acces to our property)

I'm planning 2.8-12mm varifocals as some spots i want a 3.6mm or 2.8 overview like the meadows or paddocks where the horses will stay. So there its more of " keep an eye out" for whats happening. But on the property itself its mostly tight shots in choke points to get ID pics.

Now the last time i did camera install is 5 years ago at parents place with Hik colorVU setup, those work great but no varifocals, and they need a good bit of ligth to realy shine.

For my own place i want to mostly use IR but prefer some in color mode if there is enough light.

But what models give great night image quality in a budget range of 300-400 per camera in Europe? I know the store of Andy, and the classic Dahua 5442 (now S3 version). Turrets and bullets.

But do i choose turrets or bullet? The wife accepts bullets if they are clearly better image quality, and some points will require bullet for the 32mm zoom, some bullets can be hidden a bit under an attic from a shed. But some will be visible. The horses is our precious possesion. So we want to have good image in the night for the entry points and around the stables/indoor in the stables.

Alot of the sheds/part of the house is black so cameras should be available in black too.

Currently the home owner has 4 unknown Hikvision cameras kind of dual eye models turret. They are at least 6-7 years old IR models, i am going to use those to monitor the horses themselfs in the stables, so all outdoor cameras and some indoor cameras in the stable for chokepoints like the entry will get new models.

If i want the best image quality, do i choose the Dahua 5442 PRO models, color 4K x models with the 1/1.2 sensors or just stick to the classic 5442 IR S3 models turret/bullet?

I've read turret has a bit less IR and a bit of central IR hotspot due to the layout compared to bullet. But how much of a size difference are they? I cant realy find good pictures or video to compare them.

I'm realy looking forward to your suggestions. I know these kind of topics are posted alot, but my budget is like double per camera from most around here. And in total i'm going to buy like 15-18 cameras depending on how clear i think some chokepoints are with a bit of overview included, else there will be 2 above each other/next to each other for overview and chokepoint.

Stick with the 5442 (54IR) series cameras. The PRO cameras still have a lot of work before anyone would recommend for anything other than observe capabilities.

If you have the light, or are ok with using the built-in white LEDs, then the 4K cameras are good choices for the appropriate focal length (but they are only fixed focals).

Bullet or turret comes down to preference. The bullet tends to be a little better at night as they have more IR or LED (4 versus 2) or the focal length may only be available in bullet.

So could you point me to specific product numbers from Dahua and corresponding Andy product numbers. I know your comment is posted alot on these kind of topics. But most people dont have the budget per camera i have, and especially the total amount of cameras i want to place. With the provided info i still have no clue what models in the 5442 i'm looking for except i want vari focals and some 8-32 bullet models so Z4E

I think IPC-HDW5449H-ZE-LED or IPC-HDW5442T-ZE for turret models indoor in sheds. The first one is a hybrid one going white light when it detects movement in IR? How good is its image quality compared to full IR model in the night? Inside the sheds/workshop is like 4 meter x 3 meter so small sheds.

but if the true IR model is seriously better quality then i will prefer that.

For bullets;

i have more choices in 5442 variofocals; IPC-HFW5442E-ZE, IPC-HFW5442E-ZHE, IPC-HFW5442H-ZHE for the 2,8-12mm
What is the difference between those? And for the bullets is pure IR also better then the hybrid colour models? for some overview cams hybrid colour sounds great, when movement is detected switch to colour mode to capture some color info and the higher focalpoint models will capture a good face ID

can you help me out ?

All S3 cameras are IR only. Bullet = 4IR / Turrent = 2IR

For some strange reason i noticed the dahua international page doesnt display the 5442 anymore, while the benelux site does show the 5442 IR models.

Are they going to EOL?

And how much of a difference does a 5442H make compared to 5442E? Does the optics from 7 series give significant better image or is it very minor?

Do you notice significant better quality with the H-zhe. And did you really use the heater part? As ik from the Netherlands we dont get alot of snow but i dont know about condensation, we are in a pretty wet climate of course.

If the price isn’t too much more I’d get the H.

There is also an updated 7 series just announced.

The problem is the technology isn’t going to stop changing. I buy cameras based on an assumption they’ll be obsolete in 3-5 years
You mean this model ? It looks great on paper. IPC-HFW7459Z1-Z-PV-X

Any idea on when those would be available and pricing? The new 7 series.

I'm planning an install this coming week at my house but haven't opened anything up yet. Could delay a few cameras if some nicer stuff is about to come out.
