Getting the hang of it

Just purchased the iPhone Blue Iris mobile app. When using with Blue Iris Version 5 it is causing my CPU to max out at 100% and ends up locking up my machine. Everytime! Any idea's?

Yes, on 9 of my 20 camera's I am using Limit Decoding. I also used Limit Decoding on Blue Iris V4 with no issues when using the Free iPhone Blue Iris mobile app with no issues.

Also I forgot to uninstall run as a service on Blue Iris V4 when I installed Blue Iris V5. I then uninstalled Blue Iris V4. Think that might have something to do with it?

Thanks,

Rick

Limit decoding is disable when you log in via the webserver by default. You need to go to each camera group setting and uncheck require decoding all camera frames when streaming.

fenderman,

I went through and removed all the Limit Decoding and now my CPU is running at 100% so I dropped all 20 camera's FPS from 15 to 10 FPS and it is still running at 100% CPU. any idea's?

1) What happens when you run UI3 from another computer when you are at the cameras location. Does the same thing happen?
2) what happens when you view all your camera on the BI console ?
3) what happems when you view the cameras on UI3 on the BI machine ?

what is your computer spec?
what are the camera resolution?
You can still use limit decoding (assuming you understand the downside as noted in the wiki) you just need to disable the function that forces decoding when viewing the groups.

fenderman,

My CPU is a Intel I7-6700 with 16 GB memory.
20 camera's are all Amcrest 1080P to 4K.

there is a big difference between 1080p and 4k ...you need to calculate the megapixeles per second. See choosing hardware in the wiki.

You misunderstood @fenderman's advice. When using "Limit decoding" you need to go here and uncheck Require/decode all camera frames when streaming.

Do this for all your camera groups. I told the Blue Iris developer this setting should be unchecked by default but he disagreed so here we are. With this setting disabled, you can use "Limit decoding" on your cameras and the mobile apps and UI3 won't cause such a huge performance hit.

ALSO: Optimizing Blue Iris's CPU Usage | IP Cam Talk <-- read this entire thing. If you are lucky you can get your CPU usage down far enough to not need "Limit decoding" at all, or at least on fewer cameras.

bp2008,

Thank you for clarifying that for me. That did the trick!! Thank you!
