Bit of a problem trying to download video from NVR

I have a DHI-NVR608-32-4KS2 that I am trying to download video from and I am not having much luck.
I have tried using Smart PSS but no matter what I try, it times out before the download completes. I have trying downloading in shorter segments and various formats, AVF, MP4, and no luck.
I also tried SmartPSSLite_V1.003.0000006.0.R.240517 and same thing.
I have plenty of space available.
Is there something I am missing? Googling gives some directions on how to get it done but I follow the steps and it just ends up timing out.

To export a video file from your Amcrest NV4116 NVR, you can use either a physical USB flash drive directly on the machine or download it remotely via a web browser. [1, 2]

Method 1: Exporting Directly to a USB Flash Drive​

Before starting, ensure your USB flash drive is formatted to FAT32 or NTFS and has adequate free space. [3, 4]

  1. Insert the USB flash drive into an available USB port on the front or back of the NVR.
  2. Log into the local GUI of your NVR using your password or pattern.
  3. Click on the Playback or Search icon from the main menu.
  4. Select the specific camera channel, date, and time block you need.
  5. Click the File List icon (usually located on the right or bottom of the screen) to view the breakdown of individual video segments.
  6. Check the box next to the specific file(s) you want to download.
  7. Click the Backup or Save icon.
  8. A browser window for your USB drive will open. You can create or choose a folder, then click Start to begin the export.
  9. Once the progress bar fills up, a success message will appear. You can now safely remove the USB drive and plug it into your computer. [2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]

Method 2: Exporting Remotely via a Web Browser​

Because older NVR models rely on browser plugins to process files, you should use Microsoft Edge in IE Mode or Internet Explorer for best results. [1, 2]


  1. Open your browser, navigate to your NVR’s local IP address, and log in.
  2. Click on the Playback tab at the top of the interface.
  3. Open the File List menu on the side panel to see your recordings.
  4. Note the precise start and end times of the segment you need.
  5. Click on the Trim/Scissors icon.
  6. Manually enter the target start and end times, then click the Save icon.
  7. Choose your local computer's destination directory and select MP4 or AVI as the export format (avoiding the default .dav format makes the video easier to play on standard media players).
  8. Allow the progress bar to finish downloading the clip directly to your PC. [1, 2, 5, 6, 10, 11]
If you run into issues playing back exported files, you can download the Amcrest Smart Player to view native .dav files. [2, 4]
