Best way to enable remote access to a Dahua cam?

What is the best, simplest way to enable remote access to a Dahua IPC-HDW3549H-AS-PV? It's currently on my home network via a Fritz!Box 7530 router.

Had it working via port forwarding before, but I'm aware that can be risky (plus the access no longer works).

A VPN - not a paid VPN that hides your IP, but one that is free.

Many routers have a VPN on them or use something like TailScale.
