I just installed a 24 port Swann NVR for a single person that just needed to see 1 or 2 cameras. (4am at a grocery store that gets early morning deliveries)
The IT guy a few weeks earlier gave me a 16 port Lorex with 16 cameras to replace a Swann NVR. Only after swapping some swann cameras with the Lorex did I realize this is not adding up. Some of the cameras were hard wired to the NVR the other Swanns were on the virtual subnet as the NVR....so needed a nvr with up to 32 cam capability.
So now the IT mgr "found" a 24 cam nvr ( in his closet) to operate 2 cameras hardwired to it. Lot of stupid work. ONVIF would do fine in this situation of constant recording with no smart features and plenty of light.
It also made me look bad. Gonna have to calm down before I send the bill. 1 lorex with 16 camera capability and then the 18+8 NVR to show 2 cameras for the girl that has to let vendors in at 4-5am.
Now they have 1, 16 ch Lorex NVR on the the vlan another 16 ch Lorex without network connection. and a 24 cam capable Swan that only shows 2 cameras and only 1 of those cams are in good spots. Also not on the vlan set up for their cams. Stupid Stupid.
The it guy just wants to go eat breakfast, smoke a bunch of cigarettes, go somewhere to eat lunch and tell me, well. it should only take you a couple of hrs.
I hate to go over his head but the owners know me and they know him even better. OK Rant - OFF
