Best camera for indoors + good speaker

Getting the hang of it

Here is my deal. I need an IP Speaker to connect to my Synology station and use for alerts inside the home. The camera will be on a cabinet in the living room. For example, when a car or person comes in the driveway I can make a rule to play a sound on the speaker. This can also be helpful at night, if someone approaches our home, say, in the backyard...

The problem is that the only IP Speakers compatible with Synology are Axis speakers that start at $500 (don't know what the hell they are thinking) or some speakers from Goldstream that do not even work very well.

At this point, why even getting a speaker if I can get a camera with a speaker, and replace an old indoor camera that needs replacing anyway. Can you suggest a camera that (1) has a good/strong speaker, and (2) has good human detection (to eliminate false alarms from cats and dogs when I am away).

I am currently upgrading my outdoor cameras with the IPC-Color4M-T. I guess I can put one of those indoors, but it's a bit of an overkill for indoor use, and it's not good looking next to other appliances. I am ok with getting a WiFi camera too, if it means I get more bang for the buck, but it will really be next to an ethernet connection, so I don't need WiFi as much I need a good speaker and human detection.

Any suggestion?

Thanks!

Thanks @wittaj , and what a pleasant price. You actually woke up my imagination. I already have cameras that have a speaker, and an old Amcrest worked fine to test things right away. It works!

Are the cameras suggested above any good for speaker purposes, has anyone used them?

I like to resuscitate this thread if possible. What I am trying to achieve is an internal security perimeter that will detect human entering the house. I use Synology Surveillance Station, and through that I can do a lot, including triggering sirens, sending warning through an IP speaker (I have an Axis speaker now), and perhaps even call the police if I want. This whole thing depends on cameras that can detect humans reliably, so dogs or cats at home don't trigger cameras. The IVS works great on outdoor Empiretech cameras (I have Color4M and Color4K, as well as ANNKE FCD600), but I need these features in an indoor WiFi camera to place in spots where POE cables don't reach. I tried the following options:
  • Empiretech H5D-5F, this camera turns out it does not behave like the other Emprietech cameras, no web interface, and Synology does not recognize it. I can record through the RTSP stream, but there is no motion detection event transmitted on that stream to Synology. No matter what I try this camera does not connect to Synology correctly, likely from the lack of that port 80 interface that other IPC cameras have.
  • Amcrest ASH21, this connects to Synology and has a human detection option. But (1) the connection is crap and there are glitches in the video stream, and (2) Synology keeps reactivating the normal motion detection instead of keeping just the human detection, which sends triggers even for cats.

So, back to square 1, what might be a camera that has IVS or strong human detection without false alarms and can be used via wifi? I am almost giving up and thinking to drill holes and lay POE cables indoors in some spots.

Thank you.

What about using a powerline adapter that sends data over your existing electric wires and then use the POE camera you are comfortable with.

Thanks for the idea wittaj. I have a couple of those devices. I think I tried some years ago and didn't work, but will give it another try. Maybe its a matter of trying to stay on plugs that are on the same feed (got two feeds at home). Or maybe they are too old and I should buy new ones :)

The big thing is they can't go thru a surge protector.

I have tried it on different sides of the panel and with a sub panel and they worked, but yeah sometimes there can be some wiring issues of a house that doesn't allow it to work.
