5.9.9 - January 17, 2025 - More Pre-6.0 feature releases

I cut all the legacy DB files and stuck them in a folder. I left the only new files. I then restarted the BI service and presto, all my clips were still intact. I also did a database compact after that as well.

5.9.9.75

The changelog is reproduced below. The highlights are mine.

Notes:
  1. Remote Management users should heed the final 'Known Issues' heads-up BEFORE UPDATING.
  2. As others have reported, I've also successfully updated without incident (so far).
  3. The two new (and now only) database files (notably still *.dat files) are highlighted in this screenshot:
    DB_folder_AFTER_1.png

CHANGELOG:

[5.9.9.75] – 2025-09-14

Added
• N/A

Fixed
• Non-system admin users will no longer see camera IP addresses in the JSON "camlist" results

Changed
Version 6 database. The DB code has been redesigned and then rebuilt from the ground up. The DB now consists of only 2 files, records.dat (the essential elements) and extra.dat (data that can be regenerated including preview images). If you make DB backups, only the records.dat is required.
• Given the sheer enormity of this change, data will be migrated to the new files when you install this update, but the old files (clips.dat and other view.dat files) will not be deleted automatically until stability is assured, allowing you to safely return to a previous release if required. If you do return to an earlier version, you can run a repair to adopt any new files into the old format and then delete the records and extra files so that they will once again be created when you return to 5.9.9.75 or newer.

Known issues
Remote management has not been extensively tested against the new database code. The timeline display will be missing until a future release.

When you get to the last digit of that, does it then roll over to 6.0.0.0?

I have gotten this twice now...something is not right. I did a repair/regenerate, and it fixed it, will see if it comes back.

Looks like I'm getting that too. Just did a repair, will see if that holds

I hope this new database version puts an end to all the DB corruption and storage allocation issues BI has had over the years.

I tested the Repair & Regenerate function and it works more or less exactly as before, in that it takes quite a while (for a large database) and it still renders Blue Iris incapable of recording anything while the DB is being regenerated.

I wonder if you do decide or need to go back then will you lose whatever event details have been written in the time in between upgrading and regressing or do you think the preamble data in the db is still the same and older versions simply ignore the extra data?

Mind you having typed all the above and just re-read the changelogs it does state that the db code has been redesigned ?

Yes, am with you on the db regen and not recording, I have my weekly regen set to Sunday lunch time for this reason.

I don't even see .75 any more. He must have pulled it and reverted to .73 as that is the latest one available to update to.

I'm going to let you guys take the grenades on this one. I'll update in a couple months when all the screaming and shouting is over.

5.9.9.76 has just been released to address these issues. No yelling here...this is the fun part :) DB compact now works as well.
