For me it looks like most of the 54pro AI bullshit got removed from the camera firmware (steve maybe not happy)
Now we see noise ;)

As always, some features not working

  • smart light does not work, its always on, not sure need to test more

Interesting. I'm a little surprised it got darker going from auto nighttime to 10ms/45 gain—seems the AI contrast mapping might not be as aggressive as in the previous generation (Color4M-TL). Smart light only works on cameras with the dual-color (white+IR) LEDs. They need to adjust their firmware to incorporate the separate brightness adjust for the Auto mode as a "baseline" slider for the white LED, and then switch to the "smart LED" brightness setting when motion is detected. Currently, the firmware doesn't know what to do with these cameras lacking the IR LED. If the code was open source, I bet I could fix it in a few hours, but I guess we're stuck with the years it takes Dahua's incompetent developers to figure things out. In the meantime, I'll keep using Blue Iris and CLI commands to control the LED as needed.

It seems to be lacking resolution for a 4MP camera. The previous generation (Color4M-TL) camera suffered from this even more, but is easily correctable by dropping 2D NR from 50 to 25 or lower (note that Dahua firmware has a longtime bug that can cause this value to secretly revert after closing the web interface; rebooting the camera restores it to using the value you saved). I imagine the same trick will work on this camera as well, resulting in a crisper/clearer image. Also, the video exhibits quite a bit of "pulsing". As with the previous generation camera, I'm sure you can improve these compression artifacts by changing the camera's video encoding settings to H.265, General, VBR, Quality 6, max 6144, I frame 150, smooth stream 100.

Was that using VBR?
At 14:55:32 and again at 14:55:57 the camera seems to dramatically adjust bitrate by itself
No, you're watching a version Google Drive recompressed for the web preview applet. If you want to see the original, you have to click the little pop-out arrow at the upper-right corner of the video preview frame and download the MP4 file to your computer. Only then will you get the original, 2K resolution file as encoded by the camera (where the CBR stream with a fixed GOP of 15 will become quite evident).

I'm sure you can improve these compression artifacts by changing the camera's video encoding settings to H.265, General, VBR, Quality 6, max 6144, I frame 150, smooth stream 100.

I'd love to see that...

No, you're watching a version Google Drive recompressed for the web preview applet.
Could you elaborate on this? I don't know what this means or when it happens. Are you talking about when it is exported from BI, or is this when you view the post here on IPCAMTALK?
