$118 CyberPower 1325 VA 810 Watts 10 Outlets UPS, Pure Sine Wave UPS with USB Charging Ports GX1325U

Yeah if I was really concerned about ethernet surge protection I would probably use a pair of gigabit fiber media converters and a short fiber patch cable. Every time I ever tried to use a port on a surge protector it destroyed performance.

Another option is to use the coax surge before the modem. While I have found this to be an issue with some protectors/modems/cable service because it does attenuate the signal, it was fine on the smaller version of this unit when I set it up this way for a friend. Interestingly the 10/100 limit because an issue when I installed an https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/RT-AC86U/specifications for her. It simply would not connect if passed through the ethernet surge connection while the old N66u worked. I did not think that the wan port would not work with 10/100 but the spec is specific RJ45 for Gigabits BaseT for WAN x 1, RJ45 for 10/100/1000/Gigabits BaseT for LAN x 4.

as usual, nothing works for me. :-) promo code gets me $22 discount from $189, which barely covers the taxes...

Bummer. I tried to snag one; promo code in the thread didn't work. It offered me this promo to take off $22:
GX325USALE

I'll pass on that one.
