    Montavue MTT8108-AISMDAD any good?

Looking for temporary cameras until I can build out my system. I picked up some amcrest vandal domestic, and (5) 5mp hikvisions but came across these for 90% off, used. $20 instead of 200. I figure these are better than vandal domes. I need day time coverage, not night time. I know weird...

    Cables for less Experiance?

I use to install low voltage, Its fine, you just id every wire. But if I can color code based on purpose why not have the luxury. Still have to ID every wire for location and build a map. Ie. Y1 front left Y2 front door Y3 mailbox can Y4 front right B1 Living Room tv B2 master tv W1 master AP...

    Cables for less Experiance?

^^ Its 1,000ft of truecable cat6a through and through. Its not much more than half off. $289 full price. Not really that far fetched. See it all the time around here, luckily the county north of me is one of the wealthiest in the country so I pick stuff up cheap all the time. Lol Id rather pay...

    Cables for less Experiance?

After shipping it costs what true cable costs so im just going with true cable. I don't like pass through. I use to install low voltage and have done thousands of ends. Ill stick with the standard ends. Im being impatient an md want to throw blue cable up but I'll be happier having seperate...

    Cables for less Experiance?

Yeah im going to run 23awg cat6 unshielded incase I change any of the cameras to ptz and want the extra headroom for power needed. Cat5e is way more than whats needed for almost any case except a very power hungry ptz. However, with a $30 difference ill just stick with the cat6. Shielded seems...

    Neighbor checking my pool

When it says wired it means power wall plug not poe. They have solar and wired. I dont think they have any poe at all. Its all wifi or solar. The camera is in fact, wifi only connection. Wired to a wall using a USB hard wired into the camera. If that makes sense.

    Neighbor checking my pool

Hey, it's this one. But just a heads up, TP Link integrated Kasa into their line up so any future cameras i buy will be TP-Link and not Kasa. Tp link app adapts for both but the Kasa app won't import tp link cameras. Its 34 bucks and is 2k but does feature person detection which is great until I...

    Neighbor checking my pool

So i have a cheap tp link kasa outdoor wifi cam until I can run some poe cams. Neighbor stands on mower to see if my pools clean. Years ago when I was changing my liner and it went a week dirty he called the city and they came out to inspect for "stagnant water" which falls under a health...

    Nosey neighbor?

Have you tried just telling him "Hey I added a camera that only covers the road so we can catch any kids who come in trying to steal from our cars" or something like that. Sometimes it can go a long way. You might even crop out his house and print the picture off or send it to him via...

    Network Mapping / Design

Hey yall, I have a lot more experience in installation than design of networking. This is for my personal home and I wanted yalls opinions. Finally getting things ran and done in my house. 10 years after moving in. I have ATT Fiber 1GB Plan. Fibers ran all the way into my closet with the att...

Unshielded CAT5 cable in EMT conduit outside?

Just use DB cable.... it's 24 awg with a tougher jacket. $85 for 500ft. Cat5e direct burial is available at most stores for small price, i got mine at home depot. I just threw some in the ground recently. I too use to install cctv and still, for a few cameras cat5e is fine. More than fine...

    Trench fiber, cat6 etc

I do not. They're not allowed where I'm at in the city. We have an acre, no hoa but the neighborhood behind us is newer, smaller lots with hoa. I've had the city contact me when I started the coop because of a complain filed. I then had to submit a site plan, plot plan, design plan and pay a...

    Trench fiber, cat6 etc

I think I'm just gonna run 3/4" pex for the fiber in white so it's not blue or red. Then throw down the conduit for the power. Idk direct burial wire sounds alot easier than pvc conduit

What's your opinion on cameras *inside* the home?

We have a few, Each of the kids rooms upstairs ( Both are single digits old ) and the common play area upstairs. The only other one is in the kitchen but wife turned it away because she doesn't like "feeling watched" even after nearly 2 decades. I don't have an issue with it, but i get when...

    Outdoor ethernet cable questions

Co Correct, the only thing that would corrode is in the connector. If they cut it half way or even a few inches behind the connector then they will get fresh copper and not have an issue. I'm 90% sure that's the plan. If we couldn't tuck it away we would do the same thing just to keep the...

    Outdoor ethernet cable questions

Previous installer here. 1. I wouldn't worry about the length, the final installer should cut it to length needed and put a new end on. 2. It shouldn't be exposed to the elements especially if they aren't going to cut it to length and put a new end on it. If it were my home, I'd wrap it...
