Their new G6 line up has me wondering. I see you have a color 4K T camera. I use five of them and set up my own LED soffit lighting for all five and keep the onboard LED's off. The lighting is controlled by smart dimmer switches and they automatically turn on/off with automations in Home...

It seems like if you had older generation unifi cams that it would make more sense to just buy new G6 turret/bullet cams with on board AI instead of buying $200.00 AI ports. Although it looks like you can run more than one unifi cam per AI port so I guess it might be kind of a wash. The AI...

Those AI Ports seem like an expensive solution with so so results. Like adding $200.00/camera to get AI.

Well, a few different things. I mentioned earlier about my three IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 cams. I have them mounted on the back of my shop which is a busy thoroughfare for night time critters. I will lay in bed reading waiting for the alerts to come in so I can watch the racoons, opposums, skunks...

Maybe turn off recording on my Blue Iris machine and use it only for alerts. Use Protect on the UNVR for everything else. From what I have read, I don't think unifi is going to add much in the way of more features for 3rd party cameras. (read below). I would probably just wait a generation...

I haven't been happy with the IR on any of my Empire Tech cameras, except for the ones in rooms in my house and shop. They work great in those scenerios. Outside they look washed out and hard to view. I fixed all that with external IR lighting and turned the onboard camera IR off. I did the...

Interesting. This is sounding more and more appealing. I have been doing some research online about the UNVR/UNVR pro. Just watched a video from four years ago. Seems like these devices are pretty long in the tooth. It would be my luck that I'd buy one and they would turn right around with a...

Can protect be set up using Zerotier for remote viewing? I use cellular internet, specifically T-Mobile so ZeroTier is a must. Also is the app pretty much the same on both Apple and Android?

Can you post some screen shots? I use UI3 on both my phone and desktop.

Seems like that would be kind of redundant. Basically spending the money to have a better cell phone experience? I don't use the Blue Iris app at all. I don't even have it installed. I use UI3 on my phone.

I totally agree. I have all Empire tech Andy cams (13 total) running on Blue Iris. When I started out it was a slight steep learning curve for me to get it all set up and running. Fast forward to earlier this summer. I bought a couple cheap Tapo cameras to watch over our garden. They have...

Aren't you concerned about not being able to get motion alerts from your 3rd party cameras?

Okay, so you have other unifi networking gear to look after. That's where I was confused why you needed both devices for your cameras. So you have unifi switches and AP's..........what do you use for your gateway if not unifi?

I had another question. Why did you buy both the Cloud Key Gen 2 Plus and the UNVR Pro? Don't both of them have UniFi Protect installed? I'm just confused about how unifi gear works.

Review- EmpireTech IPC-T54IR-ZE-S3 4mp Varifocal Turret

For IR for the camera I'm using a Tendelux unit with the camera IR turned off. In the video, I was using the onboard camera IR. Hadn't installed the Tendelux yet. Then I just have your basic LED motion detection flood light as well.

    Camera to watch over garden

Well I learned a few things about these Tapo cams. I've only had a few deer visit the garden so far but both times the animal detection had a massive delay before scaring the deer away. Found out the AI animal detection is actually called "pet detection". As in dog and and cats. The article...

    Nest Thermostat with Home Assistant?

I ended up installing my Nest thermostat out in my shop for heat only in the winter. Even then I keep it off unless I want some heat.

Added another layer of horror for the deer. Bought a couple LED strobe lights and plugged them into smart plugs. They are now part of the "Scare Deer" automation in Home assistant.

    Camera to watch over garden

I ended up buying a second camera. The garden is really long and I wanted one at each end. This morning was the first time a deer came up to chow on the garden. It didn't stay long once the sprinklers kicked on. :p

    Camera to watch over garden

My lady gardener put her metal statue of a frog in the garden. It's about the size of a small dog. The camera kept identifying it as a "person". I had to move it.

    Camera to watch over garden

Sadly you are stuck with only the settings in the app. And ONVIF Authentication is not in there. It's not really that big of a deal for what I'm using the camera for. The app sends you notifications of what time an alert came in. I can then go to BI under the camera timeline and see what it was.

    Camera to watch over garden

I'm still tinkering with getting the camera to send BI it's own ONVIF trigger events. I have it set up exactly the same way I have all my Andy cams set up in BI but a "GetEvents error 00002f78" shows up in BI. It actually switches back and forth from "GetEvents OK" and "GetEvents error...

Yes you need the Tapo app to set up the camera. Once that's done you can find the IP address and block it in your router.

    Camera to watch over garden

I'd still like to get ONVIF triggers to work using MQTT and receiving them in Home assistant. When I check the "Get ONVIF trigger events" box and do the find/inspect, that all goes fine. I then check the "ONVIF/camera events" box under the trigger heading. When I go to configure, it shows an...

    Camera to watch over garden

I got the new camera installed out by the garden. I'm finding out that the on board motion detection is better than what BI can give me. I have tried all different levels on the motion sliders in BI and it just won't detect motion very far away. The on board motion can detect motion almost at...
