    Dahua 2MP Starlight Lineup

Read the white paper, time wise Andy appears to think he may have a unit to test within a month or so. We are building a new house and the Starlight + series could be the ticket but too soon to say. Either way going with 10 or 12 cameras.

Review-Dahua IPC-HFW2831T-ZS 8MP WDR IR Bullet Network Camera

Just did a bit more reading on the to be released 4MP cameras that at least for now appear to show promise. I’m betting on looney getting ahold of a few of these to test. Good things coming!

As usual great write up, curious about the video quality at night in dimly lit areas.

Camera recommendation for home. Long shot

What Looney said. I’ve been here mostly reading and learning as time permits for a new house build. Finally after a year with our builder we go to contract within a week then I can refocus and read more. Most folks don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan. Read read.

    Home setup?

You’re headed in right direction. Be sure to cover all access points and mount no higher than 8’. Set up a test rig as well.

plz explain why similar spec cams price so differently?

Depending on your goals and distances I’d look at Turrets too first.

    Camera selection help...

Thanks sure have, to best honest I get a better gauge looking at videos here and gathering info on distances etc such as I did on your 5231 post. It’d be sweet if Dahua comes out with a 4K line up with same versions as the 52XX cams, Starlight Bullet/Turret and Varifocal with same low light...

Then put the time in, no one will do it for you but you’ll get help with specifics with equipment.

    New setup

That would be a “moot” point. Read read read. If you’re not willing to do so buy a system from a big box store and when you realize the mistake, then you’ll read.

    Andy’s cameras versus Chinese

Keep reading, to me personally I'd happily spend more. However, I assure you he takes care of forum members and is a known commodity and solid resource and there's value in that.

    Andy’s cameras versus Chinese

If you are spending that kind of coin and value the tremendous support you'll receive from Andy, why in God's name are you going to attempt to save a few bucks? With Andy, you KNOW what you're getting period. Do it once and do it right IMHO.

    Camera selection help...

Thanks you make a good point and we’re approaching $400K as it is and we own the land so $1K cams aren’t going to happen lol. Ok so if I focus on observing at 100’ plus and being able to identify at 60’ and under it may be more realistic. My boat is going on the right side of the house in a long...

    Camera selection help...

Looking for some guidance from the brain trust for actual camera selection based upon our layout and known distances. This is a new construction, the known distances are identified in red. For example, from the cameras to the rear of the house to the road are 150' from the road. The rear cameras...

    Hikvision have Starlight equivalent?

Glad I found this, I'd originally planned to go another route but I've got a tie to an installer who is going to wire our entire new house build for a very good price, install all Unifi APs and a ton of other work. He also can give me cost on the Hikvision cameras. My biggest thing is no domes...

    Location location location...

Thanks, correct the rear is not visible from the street and we back up to woods, same on the left side of the property. The camera in the rear on the right will be pointing directly down that area which will be a large cement driveway for my boat so that camera will cover that window. Rear porch...

First time I've ever seen snow falling!

Late to the party but I’ve lived in FL for 25 years and have seen snow twice. This past Saturday was one of those occasions. Couldn’t believe it, roads closed, black ice and a lot of wrecks. !

Help with camera choices AND placement

I've been "officially" a member here for a short while and learned what little I know by reading, reading and then I did more reading. Got a few pointers and then read more. We're starting to build a new house here before long and I plan to READ a whole lot more yet. And oh, you'll get the BEST...
