BI AI on older GPU cards?

Yes. I am going to try and setup BI to use internal IVS where possibly - haven't got that far yet, still installing BI on the server. I would like to have the capability to run AI on the server though, for cases where the camera doesn't support what I need.

BI AI on older GPU cards?

I think I will try it. I am more worried that the models will fail to run due to the age of the card / low compute capability (2.0), rather than just slow detection times. Does look like used GPUs are available quite cheaply, which have a higher compute rating...

BI AI on older GPU cards?

I am in the process of configuring new BI server (on some older hardware). I have a Nvidia Quadro 4000 GPU in the system, which I am considering potentially using for AI tasks within BI (or CPAI). However, I am aware this is an older card, and wondered about compatibility with the AI models...

Importance of Sensor Size for LPR

Yes :) From memory its a 2.8-12mm varifocal. So not a very long focal length at all by LPR standards, but the distance isn't too bad (40ft max, then the vehicles will get a lot closer, although they may start to turn sooner or later). Exactly! I think I will be doing some testing at some point...

Importance of Sensor Size for LPR

Disclaimer: I am not experienced in LPR! Context: I have an old Hik turret which I decommissioned, replaced with an EmpireTech, because it is 4MP on a 1/3, and thus performs terribly in low light. However, I wondered about repurposing it for something useful, instead of doing nothing. It...

    Blue Iris in a VM.

Very good point, I will certainly do that. I am using ZFS to mirror two SSD's for PVE and VM OS disks etc. And then I am thinking I will probably passthrough any dedicated BI video storage disks to BI VM. I also keep meaning to, while I have the server case open, disconnect 1 of the two SSD's...

    IPCT Store / BI License

I need to purchase a BI license. I accessed the IPCT store, but have two challenges. The first being that I am struggling to actually login to the store at all! The second being that the BI licenses are showing out of stock. So, I contacted IPCT (https://ipcamtalk.com/misc/contact), about both...

    Blue Iris in a VM.

I successfully cross-flashed an IT firmware onto my LSI LS2-SAS9240-8i and it seems to be presenting the individual drives to Proxmox. Now I can go through and setup the server.

Accessing cams with BI on NVR POE ports

If I understand correctly, this will only if is your NVR acts as a router between it's LAN and it's POE ports. I have no idea if it will do this. This is a good suggestion. I doubt it even depends on the the virtual host feature - it just pulls the streams from the NVR, not the cameras...

    Blue Iris in a VM.

I will look for a guide. I did notice that the manual states JBOD mode is supported, but there is no mention of IT mode. I assumed they were equivalent, but have since discovered there is a difference, and true IT mode is preferable. Hopefully JBOD will do...

    Blue Iris in a VM.

After ordering a SAS Controller, I have just found an LSI LS2-SAS9240-8i laying around which I can use. Untested, but I assume it works. I may cancel my order for the other one. Anyone know how one can switch these LSI cards between RAID and IT / JBOD mode?

Yes, I noticed that. The one I have ordered does not state either way - we shall see... Exactly. I will be using BI exclusive disks.

Anyone familiar with the difference between SAS3008 and SAS2308 based equipment? Is it just that the 2308 is slower? It seems more readily available.

    Blue Iris in a VM.

Sounds like people get on OK with SAS3008 based cards then. Quite. I do have one SATA WD Purple drive which I will use, but I also have access to a bunch of enterprise SAS drives - whilst they may not (I haven't checked) be rated for continuous writes, they are enterprise grade pieces of...

Anyone used SAS controllers for drives? I have access to some enterprise drives, but discovered that they are SAS not SATA. I don't think my server supports SAS as it is. I did notice there are quite a few PCIe SAS controllers going used: Sas Card for sale | eBay

    Blue Iris in a VM.

Interesting. In this case I will start off with the internal drive slots - there is 4 of them, although I suspect I can fit a 2.5" SSD and a 3.5" HDD in one slot - the smaller SSD mounts in an 'extra' bit at the top. So that effectively gives 6 disks, considering I have 2 SSD's for OS at the...

@rkn - thanks for that. Looks like you have a pretty solid setup there. I think I will be trying something similar when I have time to set it up. How have you attached HDDs in an external caddy? USB? eSATA?

OK. So there are no issues backing up the OS disk for the running VM? Any comments on this? :idk:

Thank you, I understand. I am familiar with using incremental backups in general, just not in PVE specifically. @biggen, do you shutdown your VM when running backups?

    Blue Iris in a VM.

Makes sense. For video storage, it's probably simpler just to pass through and run the disks in a normal Windows format, thus eleminating another layer. This is pretty much exactly the setup I am working to achieve. Interesting you have it working. I am however unfamiliar with the exact...

    Blue Iris in a VM.

Good to have some real experience from people running passthrough-ed disks. I suppose the question is, what is the advantage of passing through the disks? Why have you passed through disks? For the same reasons I have mentioned above?

    Blue Iris in a VM.

I have decided that the first port of call for hypervisor is going to be Proxmox. Point taken about the possible added complexity though. As you have stated, is seems in many cases the GPU is not required for a good BI system. However, since I already have a GPU in my system (which was...

    Blue Iris in a VM.

Yes, I have the physical host now, so I think I will try using Proxmox, as I have used it in the past and liked it. I am interested in this comment. I have not looked into doing this sort of thing with Proxmox much, only enough to know it is in theory possible. Currently my idea was to...

Thanks again for the helpful responses! I left the E5-1630 machine running a while, and then came back to check the power consumption (I wondered if before Windows may have been doing some post-startup 'stuff'). Anyway it had certainly stabilized to about 80-85w at the PDU, with the CPU at...
