    playback issues

It is rare for that to actually help! The JavaScript decoder is unable to use hardware accelerated decoding, so it is less efficient, but also less likely to fail because of a bad driver or something.

    playback issues

The huge CPU and GPU usage spike is concerning. I don't think AI could be causing that because AI analytics happen in a different process than Blue Iris, so the elevated usage would not be attributed to Blue Iris in task manager. The Stats for nerds display is also very puzzling. The graphs...

    AI Good and Bad

Oh yeah, it is a real mess. Some lawyers are learning that the hard way when they submit AI generated documents in court, and someone bothers to fact check them and find they are full of made-up case references...

Saving Large Chunks of Video from Being Deleted

You can select multiple clips (hold shift or ctrl) and right click and use the "protect" function. This tells Blue Iris to not delete them. Protected items have a lock icon. If you are using UI3 you can also view the full list of protected items by selecting "Protected" in the second dropdown...

Is someone trying to break into my home network?

I know it is a pain in the ass but you should consider the likely possibility that your router was compromised during the time you had its web access exposed. See this article for a recent example: Thousands of Asus routers are being hit with stealthy, persistent backdoors They explain how...

UI3 slow even crashing my NVR PC

Well the CPU temperature is not great, but it isn't like it is spending most of its time at 100°C either so it could be worse. I'm not going to rule out heat related damage over the entire life of the system (i7-8700 is pretty old at this point). Having Blue Iris's CPU usage spiking briefly...

Blue Iris run as a VM or Docker

That server will be more than powerful enough. Blue Iris is a traditional windows GUI program so it would probably be a waste of time trying to run it in a container/docker. It will work fine in a virtual machine. For a load of 10 cameras, I would allocate at least 10 GB of RAM and 4 to 8 CPU...

    5.9.9 - January 17, 2025 - More Pre-6.0 feature releases

I notice that your High DPI override option is having BI scale itself at 1x scale and then Windows is just stretching it so it is blurrier. Definitely you'll want to show this to Ken. Blue Iris has been reasonably good at DPI scaling natively in my past experience so it should be again.

Maybe 6.0 will have a little different look :)

The only other thing I notice in this update is that the camera title bars have changed from a gradient to a flat color. A flat color which, interestingly, is actually quite far away from the color assigned to the camera by the user.

Maybe 6.0 will have a little different look :)

Using mostly-static frames of grayscale snow to represent signal loss is an interesting decision. Normally when such a noise pattern is used, it would be rendered at a high frame rate, but Blue Iris tends to just generate one, or a few frames, throughout the entire signal loss period, so to me...

UI3 slow even crashing my NVR PC

8 cameras is definitely not too much for any properly functioning hard drive. Having it be a network drive would, I think, make it less likely for disk hardware problems to affect the stability and reachability of the BI server machine. In theory the only thing that should be affected by a...

UI3 slow even crashing my NVR PC

It sounds like your BI server may be having a hardware problem if putting it under a heavy load causes the machine to crash. Do you have a monitor hooked up to so you can see what it is doing when you can't remote in? That will be key. You can't collect much information for diagnostic purposes...

    Blue Iris UI3

Thanks for letting me know about that, because that change did cause some bugs which I'm fixing. However this change did not prevent the "All cameras" group from appearing in UI3.

    5.9.9 - January 17, 2025 - More Pre-6.0 feature releases

Thanks for the heads up. Do you know what version this went into? This is causing a number of bugs in UI3 of course, mainly because I was not normalizing character case (to upper or lower case) when using camera or group IDs as part of a settings key. I have to start doing that now. Issues...

    Blue Iris UI3

The user permission you found is the place I was referring to. The only other place I can think of where it could be disabled is what Tinman pointed at. Click the gear icon to the right of the "All cameras" dropdown in the local console. and make sure "Enable group webcast stream" is checked :)

I got two cameras gifted and they say this warning.. BOTH of them.

Interesting, so it does in fact seem that your cameras were designed to record video directly to their built-in storage devices. I'd never heard of that before. Usually the built-in storage is only big enough to hold the firmware and configuration, and not much else. The message about your...

    Blue Iris UI3

Ken replied, said it should be fixed for 5.9.9.82. (not released yet) That is all correct and hasn't changed in UI3 going back all the way to version 1 :) If "All cameras" is not in the dropdown list then it means the web server user does not have permission to view all cameras.

    Trying SSD on BI

Yeah I read that QLC (quad level cell) can only be overwritten about 1000 times. Imagine if wear leveling algorithms didn't exist. You could kill a cell in a matter of seconds. Almost all consumer SSDs from the last couple years are TLC or QLC.

I got two cameras gifted and they say this warning.. BOTH of them.

Wow, I didn't know some IP cameras even came with eMMC. eMMC is typically built in storage that is not user-replaceable, with performance characteristics about like a cheap micro SD card. It is the kind of storage you'd expect to find on something like a single-board computer or a cheap...

My red dots on that calendar view are also completely wonky. My clip list shows red dots on every Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday. My alert list is the opposite set of days (missing Monday, Tuesday, Saturday). Haha. With the lists filtered to a single camera it is usually just empty or may have...

    Blue Iris UI3

It looks to me like the high-res jpeg loads but it is being rendered small like a normal thumbnail. Is this correct? I found the underlying issue causing that and submitted a bug report to BI support about it.

    ZeroTier

I had similar issues with ZeroTier. I think the slowdown happens when it can't establish a direct tunnel so it has to use a relay server provided by ZeroTier themselves. But ZeroTier's client apps are too simplistic and don't show you the per-peer connection status. I think Tailscale has...

    Trying SSD on BI

I never thought about clip thumbnails being a bottleneck on standard hard drives, but that makes sense if they're stored on the same drive that is being used for continuous recording of many streams. SSDs are great for BI video storage. It just isn't super cost-effective. Timeline playback is...

How to view BI via HTTP with 20 devices simultaneously on LAN

You may be onto something here. I can get Blue Iris to malfunction either by freezing a camera or crashing entirely, by using many browsers at the same time. However your single PC tests are probably flawed because a web browser will only let you have a maximum of 6 connections open to the...

Optyk 8mp turret cams yeh or nah?

Never heard of it. If it supports ONVIF then Blue Iris should be able to use it. If it supports PoE then it probably supports ONVIF. If its main or only method of connectivity is wifi then chances are not good.
