Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

New Dahua products to watch: 4 series: using the budget SC485SL and SC855SL sensors like the 2-series PROX, built with battery cameras in mind but also way better than 2024’s PRO on paper and with auto ICR we actually get to put low end Lightbox IR tech to the test. 5 series “LE” These don’t...

bi-mcp: a Blue Iris MCP server for Claude Code / LLMs (read + control via the JSON API)

Serious question. Why use MCP for generally stateless systems like BI or Home Assistant? Wouldn’t a decent skill set work better? Maybe follow up with some steering to go straight to the skill if pertaining is lacking… I’m generally miffed at home assistant’s assist pipeline already costing 2x...

    Dahua WizColor 2449-ProX vs WizColor 2449-Pro ("Color4M-TL")

Typical 2 series review? Don't forget 30ms. Somone did post comprehensive night walk-around videos with the 4MP PROX. I think they were as expected. Very good for an overview camera in full color, must be very close for identification. We are finally seeing product lines get better instead of...

    IP cam for rotents.

I built something like this using restrictive licensed tools and finally just found a different way. I "feel" like my training was good and it benchmarks OK but I haven't had a mouse in the two years I've had my model so it's kind of a waste and getting in the way of the object detection I...

    Mowing and edging

I’m very close to slapping a 2kw motor on my manual reel. I have the nicest yard in the hood until late July then it’s just not worth the water and effort anymore. Every year.

    Thingino

Super cool. Listing AAC first trips up a lot of otherwise decent pipeline. Ulaw works as it is an actual communication codec, but American/japanese products are so screwed up and worthless it’s best just to alaw everything.

    Dahua WizColor 2449-ProX vs WizColor 2449-Pro ("Color4M-TL")

Are they really that aggressive? You're also mentioning exposure times in the 30's. I don't get close to half of that even with my old night color 2.0 cams.

    Dahua WizColor 2449-ProX vs WizColor 2449-Pro ("Color4M-TL")

I'm confused about all the Exposure Compensation and License Plate Exposure and stuff you're mentioning. Does this camera not have manual gain and exposure limits?

    Kid's room camera recommendations

Tapo is fine. They make pan tilt with full room view for basically free. go2rtc tapo:/ integration is really good so frigate functionality is fine. Just make sure you have a wired access point nearby.

    Thingino

Same person just released a go2rtc pull request for a private protocol. backchannel. Basically makes the Dahua work just like a Tapo which is an upgrade for a lot of these cameras.

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

4k-t has a fixed focal length so a fixed iris naturally gives a steady aperture. As you increase focal length, you should be letting in more light to help compensate, but the 3 series doesn’t do that. I would imagine those get pretty starved for light as you zoom in at night. We know Dahua...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Focal length is not iris. Being verafocal is why fixed iris is an issue.

Thanks. Too slow though. Working on Private Protocol now but also want open and permissive. Some other guy looks to be working on it too in go2rtc so maybe I just wait on him and cherry pick or merge it to my fork. My big plan at home was to get that N45EYNZ piped in so I could finally go back...

    Thingino

Thanks for reaching out and best of luck finding new and exciting ways to tackle more cameras. This forum is going to focus much more on visual conditions. Just giving a cheap camera manual control over shutter and gain would be a breakthrough in that space. I’ll be trying Thingino in the...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

Yes. At 2.8mm focal length, if that lens if focused on a smaller sensor, the FOV is smaller. If you double sensor size but also megapixels, you get the same pixel pitch and pixel density is f/pitch. So basically exactly the same. 24-25 PPF at 50’ I guess you could say the problem is that...

Dahua WizColor 5x59-PRO and SmartLight 5x59-IL new series

I’m not sure identify ranges you’re talking about are correct. 4MP 1/1.8 2.8 and 3.6mm have same linear pixel density(identify) as those same focal lengths focused on an 8MP 1/1.2” sensor. The 8MP just gets bigger FOV. I’m a newb here so maybe the industry misrepresents some of these numbers as...

    POE Passthrough 12 V Extractors

Oops I didn’t see the passthrough requirement, that could raise the price because rarity but not BOM. You can just split the barrel and run camera on 12v. “Poe splitter” on AliExpress. Edit: ok would need to reinject so these will always cost more. Your camera still has a barrel though.

    2-way talk IPC-HDBW5449R1-ZE-LED

Does this camera even support it? Specs are very confusing. Mine is actually N45EYNZ. Do I need to flash to multilang? The camera has a speaker that properly plays alarm notes. It also has a line out. Spec sheet for IPC-HDBW5449R1-ZE-LED says "support two-way talk." So far: there is never any...

Amazon is phasing out Firestick's Android-based Fire OS in favor of locked-down, Linux-based Vega OS

What malware? Literally the entire Firestick/Roku/GoogleTVs are malware. Those entire purpose is to extract as much of your data as possible. They don't make their money on the hardware. Also, they maliciously bypass your network's DNS preferences. AliExpress boxes are typically unlocked and...

    2026 New Release from EmpireTech

You see the sc880 (old 1/1.2”) in the 2 and possibly 3 series this year. It’s an upgrade from last gen’s sc850 (1/1.8). Still dated and wouldn’t be impressive in a 5 series update as it might be the current 5 series CIS. They could be a sc885sl or even sc889sl that’s just not public yet. There...

    2026 New Release from EmpireTech

I think one would hope the new 5 series will have the SC489SL. That one has supposedly the best IR sensitivity ever produced and was not designed for budget or battery products like the SC485SL just released in the 2-series. I don’t know what is in the PRO but I would guess SC480SL / SC880SL or...

    2026 New Release from EmpireTech

Just re-read Dahua specs. PROX 2MP and 4MP are almost certainly SC285SL and SC485SL. The dead giveaway is the 1FPS third stream that is part of Smartsens Always on Video tech for battery cameras. What’s great for IPCT users is the Lightbox IR physically changes the pixel shape to capture 100%...
