    Video skips when motion detected

The Dahua NVRs have a (IMO) architecture design flaw where the NVR creates a new video file when an event occurs. If the NVR is recording continuously, it's humming along recording video into a file. Then when an event occurs, it closes the existing video file, creates a new one, and records...

Don't Mess With a Mama Deer

I often cross paths with deer when outside the house. They've always been non-aggressive and slowly walk away, unless they're startled, then they bolt away. I still fear them. Maybe I could take on a smaller doe, but when there's more than one, or any with the pointy things on their head, I'm...

    Dahua Lens Replacement

Verify this because I'm digging into deep memory. 1. The lens mounts for the 1/1.8 cameras are M16. The spec sheets say M12. 2. A few years ago M16 lenses were hard to find, while M12 were plentiful. Maybe that's changed by now.

    IP cam for rotents.

An older dahua camera with "dumb" IVS should trigger on the rats/mice. If it has object detection (human+vehicle) it won't work. An older 2MP starlight should be good for this, like a 5231 or 4231 series. It's too bad that the newer smart cameras are so dumb and can't trigger on animals.

Maybe this is one of the reasons we need the obamacare subsidies to continue? The gist of the study is that the insurance company is heavily inflating its revenue using questionable accounting, making the profit margin appear lower than it actually is. Study Reveals UnitedHealth's Profit...

HP EliteDesk G4 SFF Randomly Shutting Down (Crashing)

I use an elite desk G4 for BI. When I first brought it up a few years ago it had issues crashing. The fix was to get rid of the Intel graphics driver and use the win 10 generic driver.

This is what happens when obama and the dems "fix" the medical system promising: -You can keep your doctor -You can keep your insurance -Insurance cost will go down $2,500 annual per family The results: -Many lost their doctor -Pretty much everybody lost their insurance plans -Insurance costs...

    Dahua WizColor 2449-ProX vs WizColor 2449-Pro ("Color4M-TL")

I'm in the same boat. Based on specs from other brands like eufy, reolink, etc., I have the impression the mass market wants only wider FOVs. I think we're supposed to suck it up and buy varifocals for more money and have a fatter camera.

I think this is one of the most refreshing answers out of a congresscritter for a long time. A simple honest answer instead of the usual bullshit. I'll take honesty over bullshit every day. Is every congresscritter knowledgeable about everything? Not a chance, but they have the bad ethics...

    Natural Gas Generators

I think this is an area of semantics and opinion, which the generator and/or UPS manufacturer will spin in their favor. Possibly no two generator models behave the same and I can offer only one example, an Onan "microquiet" RV generator with AVR. This is the no-load voltage output: The AVR...

Is the regime in Iran soon to be toast?

Something I don't get with this Hormuz blockade. I thought USA was a net exporter of oil, meaning that oil passing through hormuz should have no effect whatsoever on our national security. It might have something to do with the price of gas and diesel, but is our cost trying to keep hormuz...

TVs require walmart accounts to work now : Louis Rossmann

Another enshitification article. Not from a media outlet I like, but it does ring of reality. "Is it possible to avoid the continuing decline in quality of consumer products brought on by corporate greed?" That's part of it, the other part being the consumer not demanding and willing to pay...

    New system suggestions

(IMO) Near the equator I could believe it to work except during storms. In the northern US, not a chance in the winter. In between those two locations would be varying degrees of working and not working depending on northness and local weather.

    Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

This looks like one of many places medical costs could be lowered, but it's not possible politically. It's a pretty clear track record of money being funneled to big pharma: (1) Invent a problem, (2) Make a drug to treat it, (3) Make insurance cover the drug, guaranteeing demand in spite of...

Maybe the Osborne machine was just ahead of its time. For a few years I occasionally traveled the country with a Compaq suitcase computer, to do debugging at customer sites. It was about the same size as the Osborne looks to be, and was heavier at 28 pounds. Big improvements over the Osborne...

bidens incredible transition to electric cars

My understanding is the old low-tech chargers are perfectly fine for flooded lead acid batteries, possible death for other battery types. More and more cars have AGM batteries, something to be aware of. This caution also applies to portable generators with battery charging outputs. The labels...

    Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

I never had a flu, shingles, etc., etc, shot, or any of the other that I'm "supposed" to have. I got really pissed about a decade ago when I went for a tetanus shot, only to find a straight tetanus shot wasn't available, it was available only in a multi-whatever shot. The wife and I both had...
