Replace ColorVu cameras with IR
No colour camera will see in the dark. so replacing it won't achieve anthing unless you go over to a camera with a B&W IR picture for night time. There's no need to spend huge amounts of money replacing either. I've given you a cheap and easy solution, put an led light in there on a timer set... -

Understand the limitations. No camera will produce a good picture on movement at 16ms. I use 4ms on 4Kt. 6 or 8ms at a push if I need more light for some reason. You don't have enough light. I have the 4kT Dahua which are almost identical and I can get a decent picture with around 300-400 lumens and that's outside not in a small enclosed space like a garage and that's on a gain of 50 and a 4ms shutter. If it's that dark your colourvu requires >50 gain... -
Apple TV Viewing of Cam Streams?
Why connect through Apple TV ? Can't you just connect your NVR direct to your TV and simply change the source using the remote if you need to view the cams? It seems to me you're over complicating it. -

The Pro version has a definately better image in that example. There's more detail in the fence in the right pro image without appearing oversharpened opposed to a very over sharpened artefact-y looking image in the non pro and the grass to the left of the path has more detail in the right pro... -

Your friend would p;robably be better off either with a fixed camera or a hyrbid camera such as the one Andy has suggested. The issue with a pure pTZ is if it's looking in the wrong place, it won't be triggered and he'll never see where the dogs went and PTZ's are notorious for tracking poorly...- CCTVCam

Simple answer is give the camera some light. Put a light on a timer and run it all night. You only need a small led bulb of a couple of watts to bring the light levels up to where the Colorvu are probably going to give a decent picture without the issues you're describing. BTW pixellation and... -

I agree Steve. Unsure if the P Iris works automatically, but it's definately the answer. In bright conditions you can have a small aperture eg f18 (if it goes that low) and in the middle of the night when there's no light f1.2. I think the issue for PQ is a mixture of lens, aperture and compression issues. It's welll know as you go up in sensor size, you have to go down in aperture to maintain dof. Lack of clarity is probably a combination of shallow focal point caused by large aperture and possibly quality of lens... -

No its a fixed IP on the 2nd Network card. The IP has changed ocassionally in the camera itself after the power was withdrawn. It's the 2nd one I've had like this. Never knew the 4kt had been revised. The original appears to have some issues incl. but not limited to DOF, focus issues and clarity compared to 5442, processing power / memory (too many things enabled on camera caused issues). It also doens't like power being withdraw and on mine at least... -

As above, I found that with my 4kt's. Close to the cameras 8ms would deliver a blurred person on fast walking. Further out, ok. That's why I run 4ms with re-inforcement lighting as the area it's protecting is close to the camera. Although 4ms is just about decent if dark, I rely instead on 4ms... -
