Hi all,

I see that the bunch of Amcrest cameras I purchased a few years back (IP5M-T1179EW) are now showing up with a slightly modified model number (IP5M-T1179EW-AI). It looks like the camera now includes some AI event detection functionality - possibly human and vehicle detection which I use on my other cameras.

What's the chances that the firmware from the newer model can be flashed to the older to gain the new functionality?

Thanks!

I'd hazard to say "not good"...if you could do that, they'd lose the sale of a camera with the "-AI" suffix and the added ability.
The AI version likely has more processing horsepower than it's non-AI cousin (I have a (IP5M-T1179EW, BTW.....).

Yea, I wish the Amcrest had the smarter detection in it, as I need something that can specifically identify humans and vehicles and avoid false alarms. That may be reason enough for me to upgrade...

If your running Blue Iris 6 you might get by with the AI tab in Camera settings.

Very old IP5M-T1179EW whose firmware haven't been updated (before 03-2022) could be cross-flashed to Dahua firmware with the AI features, so the capability has always been there. I thought it was interesting when I started seeing the IP5M-T1179EW-AI models appear with Amcrest officially embracing the AI detection.

I'm pretty sure I have cross-flashed some of mine, but it gives only limited additional detection features. It provides line/region detection, but not specifically human/vehicle, as I recall. I'm assuming these include a more advanced AI to distinguish people and vehicles.

I have an IP5M-T1179 that is giving me trouble remembering the time. I thought upgrading firmware might fix it but I cannot find a match on the Amcrest site as all the T1179 models now have either "EB-AI-V3", "EW-28MM", or "EW-AI-V3" suffixes. Based on what I read above I'm concerned that I'll brick it with one of those versions.

My firmware was last updated 2020-09-04 (if it's not broke don't fix it plus my cameras are completely isolated behind a firewall and only accessed locally or via VPN). I also read here for the first time that Dahua firmware can be loaded on these cameras but I've never done that. Can someone recommend a relatively current version of firmware for this plain jane IP5M-T1179 and where to find it? FWIW I am also waiting on a response from Amcrest Support as well as Nelly's Security Support. Thanks.

Update went well and the clock set itself incorrectly again... I guess setting the timezone correctly in the first place would have avoided this... Doh! thank you for your patience.
